17th and Corcoran Street, NW
“Dear PoPville,
Do you know why there have been two soldiers and DC police outside Safeway on 17th Street NW past couple of days?”
Ed. Note: We’ve noted a National Guard presence at some NPS run parks but this is the first report we’ve gotten from outside a business. I’m guessing they are just helping police enforce the ‘you must wear a mask’ before entering a grocery store rule. Anyone else see the National Guard posted at spots besides parks?

Here’s a bit of good news to start the week: Un je ne sais Quoi reports:
“Les chouquettes sont prêtes !!!!
And we’re ready too!

“Dear PoPville,
We are coming up on a wedding anniversary in 2 weeks. I wanted to see if the PoPville readers had any ideas for high end restaurants that are doing take out right now.”
Ed. Note: We talked about some favorites in March but have you done any splurges recently? Please us know where and if you did pick up or delivery? Thanks!

Thanks to Andrew for sending the above Awesome from AU Park.

“Dear PoPville,
I wanted to share an experience that has shown me there is still kindness in the world. I work for a large international non-profit and yesterday 70 people were laid off, 10% of employees. I am safe but know many of the employees, including my best friend, whom I’ve worked with for more than 7 years that were impacted. I was angry at the world and went for a run. After 4 miles I was overcome with emotion and stopped at the corner of 16th and S St NW to compose myself. As I was doubled over sobbing, a kind man stopped and walked over to me. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
1) I live in a small co-op and am curious if folks have any examples of good, reasonable COVID guidance that they’ve been using. We don’t have an on-site staff or property manager, so we are a little bit more self-service in the cleaning department and some of the District’s guidance is better suited for larger buildings.
2)I am sympathetic to my co-op neighbors with children, but a couple times each week, some of the families in our building let their kids play together in the common area. (more…)

GL requests: “any good sushi take out still around? Plz assist!”
Some early responses:
“Hilo poke and sushi in Adams Morgan, Sushi Taro, Wok n Roll, Sticky Rice, Imm Thai or Asia Kitchen, Torai in Barracks Row, Zeppelin in Shaw is offering takeout sushi, in AdMo! And if you do pickup between 4 and 6pm I believe they have their sushi happy hour pricing, Tono Sushi, Toku if you’re looking for pretty nice quality at a reasonable price!!, Yosaku, on Wisconsin near Tenleytown metro. One of the few Japanese owned ones and it’s terrific!, Nama_DC by Chef Michael Schlow, Kaz, Sushi Ogawa, and Raku/Rakuya.”
Add yours below and please add what neighborhood if you can.

“Dear PoPville,
Like many others, I have been using some of my extra time to perfect my baking skills. I live alone so I am ending up with lots of extra treats. Do you know of any groups or organizations that would accept homemade baked goods? I would love to give some treats to some of the area essential workers.”
