The news about Surfside opening in Dupont may have gotten even better – last night they tweeted:

“We are so excited to announce our newest Surfside ! Located at 1800 N street! #comingsoon #tacotime #24hours..”

Since I don’t think they’ll be opening tomorrow, it looks like the #24hours means they hope to be open 24 hours a day – which would be awesome. Stay tuned.

“Dear PoPville,

Last week I was riding my bike up Ridge Road NW (learning the hard way why it’s called that) when I started to hear a snare drum as I got to the top of the hill. Once I came around the final bend, I saw this guy with a whole drum set just doing his thing in the middle of the park! A treat for us riding and running by, and I suppose a clever practice space for someone who doesn’t want to disturb any neighbors. Anyone else ever come across him?”

The 1800 Cafe closed their little spot at 1800 N St, NW back in Oct. 2011. Finally some phenomenal news as to who’s taking over the space – one of my favorites Surfside! This is the little space right next to the recently opened STK Steakhouse on the N Street side.

Surfside currently has a restaurant in Glover Park at 2444 Wisconsin Ave, NW.  You can see their menu here. Their website says:

“Surfside is a fresh breeze on the restaurant scene where you can get great grilled tacos, salads and entrees inspired by the beach cuisines of the world.

Surfside is all about laid-back, simple preparations with grilled steak, fish, shrimp and chicken with a wide array of fresh vegetables served on a colorful plate in a bright open space. Perfect for a quick bite or a gathering with friends – great for families and kids. Discover our rooftop deck and the authentic bold flavors of our fresh-made salsas, moles, curries and the best guacamole in town. Enjoy a frozen margarita or tropical blended drink with your meal or choose from an eclectic mix of international beers and wines.”

From Dupont Circle Citizens Association:

“Councilmember Jack Evans gave us an update on the legislation session and budget, including the news that $10M had been appropriated for a park covering Connecticut Avenue where it cuts under Dupont Circle from Q Street.”

Greater Greater Washington reported:

“[ANC Commissioner Mike] Feldstein said, “The next step is getting advice on what works in parks like that, and getting community input.” The park could break ground as early as October if plans can be approved, Lipinsky [Evans’communications director] noted.”

From an email:

“We have had a very busy spring and are happy to make a few changes for the summer with our new summer menu just introduced. We literally took our most popular dish (chicken schnitzel) and made it better (at least we think and hope so :-) ) and while doing that, we came up with some other options (pork and vegeterian) and introduced number of toppings, treating the schnitzel kind of like a pizza. Anyway, we had a great time coming up with the new menu and hope it will be loved by our regulars. So, the question of the day is, do you like the new menu?”

On Kansas Ave around the corner from the YES! Organic Market. Peaches not ready yet, but very cool when they are! Assuming this is a peach tree of course…then it’d be awesome in a whole different way :)
