From a press release:

“As part of an extraordinary nationwide design competition, the 11th Street Bridge Park is excited to announce four nationally recognized design teams have been selected to envision Washington D.C.’s first elevated public park on the foundation an old freeway bridge spanning the Anacostia River.

The public is invited on June 10 to meet the designers, who were selected by the Bridge Park’s Jury of national experts for their vision, comprehensive approach and creative energy. More than 40 teams, and 80 firms representing some of the most renowned designers in the nation, responded to an open call for submissions launched in March. Selecting the four teams furthers the goal of choosing a final design for the Bridge Park – an iconic new civic space that will provide a unique venue supporting the community’s environmental, economic, cultural and physical health. UPDATE:

“We have been so thrilled with the wonderful response (and many pre-orders) received for this weekend’s Bullfrog Bagels at Cork Market pop up that we will be extending the pop up an additional weekend! Bagels and bialys will be available for pre-order and purchase at Cork Market Friday, June 6 through Sunday, June 8. Individuals interested in purchasing a dozen or more bagels can pre-order their desired amount by emailing [email protected] or calling 202.265-2674″

From an email:

“D.C. area residents who crave traditional New York-style bagels and bialys soon will have reason to celebrate. Hand-rolled and boiled bagels and bialys will be the centerpiece of a pop up taking place May 30, 31 and June 1 at Cork Market & Tasting Room on D.C.’s hot 14th Street corridor.

Bullfrog Bagels at Cork Market will offer five bagel types – plain, sesame, poppy, onion and everything – as well as bialys and a variety of house-made schmears. Bullfrog Bagels are the creation of Jeremiah Cohen, former General Manager of the Tabard Inn and artisanal bread evangelist.

“Bullfrog Bagels started in those early morning hours when I couldn’t sleep,” said Cohen. “I rolled the bagels by hand, boiled them in small batches, and then baked them on stone.” He favors his own wild, young levain (a not-so-sour sourdough starter) over commercial yeast, as it gives the bagels a more distinctive flavor and a chewy, but not-too-chewy, texture.

Logan Circle shoppers can get their fill of bagel and bialy goodness beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 30, and at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1. Bagels and bialys will be available until supplies run out. Individuals interested in purchasing a dozen or more bagels can pre-order their desired amount by emailing [email protected] or calling 202.265-2674 and pick them up at Cork Market over the weekend.

Times: Beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. Sunday

“Dear PoPville,

I have watched this project develop over the past month. I had some reservations as recently as last week, but I have to say the finished product is a nice addition of open sidewalk space and inviting seating.”

From a press release:

“The nation’s capital, which is already a leader in green infrastructure, will soon have four new rain gardens to add to its efforts in one of the most heavily trafficked neighborhoods.

The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District will hold a ribbon cutting for four new rain gardens that it designed and built at 19th and L Streets, N.W., at noon on May 21.

The gardens, which total 2,280 square feet, have vegetation that will attract butterflies and bees. Rain gardens mimic natural hydrology; they help divert water and keep it within the aquifer and out of streams and rivers.”

“Dear PoPville,

Last night there was a scheduled performance of “Big Tony’s Birthday Celebration” show which was supposed to be a celebration of DC music and was hosted by dave grohl. The acts listed included members of DC punk legends Bad Brains, Scream, and also included a set by Trouble Funk – A go-go legend of DC.

However, later in the night, the entire lineup of The Foo Fighters came on to play a 17 song, 2 hour set. One of the few times they’ve played in the last two years This was not announced ahead of time and was a surprise. Since Dave Grohl is from the area, it seemed appropriate.”

Ed. Note: Awesome.
