David Grinspoon, an astrobiologist at the Library of Congress, and Ka Chun Yu, curator of space science at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, offer a mind-blowing trip through space and time—set to live funky jazz. See our home in space from a cosmic perspective and search for clues to life, from the infant Earth where life first arose to the mysterious, promising depths of Saturn’s strangely vibrant moons. The journey includes previously unseen state-of-the-art digital visuals and musical interpretation by the House Band of the Universe. Proper DC Brew Pubs Coming Soon? New Permit Now Available to Buy Beer to Drink (more than little samples) at the Breweries

“A new permit is now available to District breweries that will for the first time allow customers to purchase and drink the brewery’s beer while visiting the facility. The new law is a provision of the Fiscal Year 2015 Budget Support Emergency Act of 2014 (page 27) that took effect today.

Under the Manufacturer Tasting Permit Emergency Amendment Act of 2014, a brewery can apply for an on-site sales and consumption permit with the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA). The permit would allow for customers to purchase and consume beer—brewed at the brewery— while on the licensed premises from 1-9 p.m., seven days a week. The annual fee for the permit is $1,000. ABRA is now accepting and processing permit applications.

Any manufacturer that does not want to apply is not required to do so. A brewery would still need to obtain a tasting permit in order to provide samples of beer to customers at no cost even if they have an on-site sales and consumption permit.”

“Bullfrog Bagels unleashed a little bit of bagel hysteria when founder Jeremiah Cohen began selling his bagels for two weekends in June.

The bagel-maker returns, this time at CakeLove’s 1506 U St. NW location from July 17 through 27. Flavors include everything, onion, poppy seed, sesame, and plain—all for $1.50 each or $18 per baker’s dozen. Bullfrog also offers bialys plus three types of cream cheese, new smoked whitefish salad, Scottish-style smoked salmon, and pastrami-crusted smoked salmon.

All pre-orders must be placed on Bullfrog’s new online ordering system.

Stay tuned post pop-up for a permanent location in the fall with an expanded menu.

For now (the next two weeks) please pre-order your bagels or come on by to our friends at CakeLove at the U Street location and purchase them in person!

Your photos will go into the queue (usually 3-4 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit. Please try to send horizontal photos 640×480 (medium size on your iphone) if possible. If you’re not using an iphone any size is fine.
