Thanks to Ashley for sending: “Caught a nice view (and terrible photo) of a barred owl doing the lords work and eating rats on Oak St.”
If you spot a hawk, any interesting wildlife or celebrity skateboarder Tony Hawk, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted them to [email protected]. Thanks! Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

I am Wes, running for the position of “Best Friend Ever! My platform is simple: I love the outdoors and getting pets from everyone I meet. I strongly believe in walks and will do a silly dance that combines tap and The Twist when I see you reach for my leash. Like any good politician, I will stop and introduce myself to all humans who might contribute to my campaign with a scratch behind my floppy ears.
I never turn down affection, and if I’m overdue for pets, I will bring this oversight to your attention with a poke from my cold nose or a gentle swat with my front paw. After a hard day of campaigning on my daytime walks, I love to spend the evening curled up next to a human for a snooze and pets. An additional qualification I bring to the job: I’ve not had any accidents inside the house. I promise that if I am selected, I will do everything to win your heart and home.
So do your part, apply to check out Wes for “Best Friend Ever. It will be a lifetime term of unwavering love and commitment and I cannot wait to serve you! Go Wes!

You know the Red Sonja comic book character as an accomplished sailor and fearless adventurer. Well *this* Red Sonja is even more fearless than the other one, because she’s successfully navigating this world (and raised three babies) without eyes! Red Sonja was born this way and has adapted beautifully to life. Seriously, she’s truly incredible. After a few days, she was ready for cuddles! She even immediately figured out all the changes when her foster mom rearranged her living space. One might even question whether she secretly has eyeballs because her reactions are so accurate.
Red Sonja was an excellent mom to three kittens and seems to be looking forward to reclaiming her status as the house baby herself. She, after all, is just a big kitten herself and is always up to play. But, as is the case with most cats, she’s also a big fan of chilling out time, especially if that chilling out time is on a lap, and bonus points for a lap that is bathed in sunlight. Red Sonja is always up for meeting new people. When she meets a new person, she needs a bit of an introduction period where she figures out what they’re about. But once she does, she’ll ask for love! And Red Sonja would love to meet you-fill out an application today!

From Council Member Frumin’s office:
“I share residents’ frustration that the Wilson Aquatic Center has still not reopened. My team and I have been in frequent contact with DGS and DPR leadership to press for transparency and to get the pool open and operating reliably as soon as possible.
While the extensive work to replace the HVAC system and other necessary facility maintenance is complete, a leak was discovered when the pool was being refilled. DGS has assured me that repairs are underway and proceeding as quickly as possible. Here is the statement the department released earlier today: (more…)
