I’m a new DC resident and love, love, love my new neighborhood (16th St heights) and especially love the townhouse architecture (I’m from Oregon where row houses absolutely do not exist). But since I have moved here I have seen not one, not two, but THREE houses flipped, gutted, painted some variation of grey with black trim windows, black modern railing, and the SAME MODERN LIGHT FIXTURE in the “open concept” kitchen in a block radius from our house. They just started work on a fourth around the corner. What is this all about?? (more…)

Profs and Pints DC presents: “Artemis II and Beyond,” on how the recent space mission fits into long-term plans for the Moon, with Michael J. Neufeld, retired senior curator for the Space History Department of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.

NASA’s recent, spectacular Artemis II mission is a sign that the United States is serious about sending humans to the Moon again.

“Dear PoPville,

The Woodley Park Window Masturbator is at it again – this time on Mothers Day.  Remember, someone reported him doing the same thing in March on International Women’s Day.*  On the afternoon of May 10, I was walking north on Connecticut Avenue NW, right before Cathedral Avenue NW, when I heard someone knocking urgently on a window that was close to the sidewalk.  When I looked over, I saw a man inside wave and then he started masturbating at the window.  He had the slatted blinds pulled down so I couldn’t see his face, only his masturbating.  After this happened, I checked PoPville to see if anyone else reported this. This is the first I’ve seen of a building requiring residents to wear masks just to leave their apartment (run to trash room, take the dog for a walk). Considering masks aren’t required for regular exercise, I can’t imagine a landlord has any ability to throw this on lease-holders, right? Regular mask wearer here, but considering the legality. “Mayor Muriel Bowser was joined by local and federal officials, as well as members of the Bowser Administration, to showcase the conversion of the Walter E. Convention Center into an alternate care site to support the District’s coronavirus (COVID-19) medical surge response.

“Our hope is that as Washingtonians continue working together to blunt the spread of COVID-19, we never get to the point of needing to use this site. But if we end up needing additional hospital capacity, these beds are here and ready for patients,” said Mayor Bowser. “We are very grateful for all of our local and federal partners who worked quickly to get this site ready to go in just a few weeks. And we are very grateful for all the people in our community who are making sacrifices and doing their part to save lives and keep our city safe and healthy.”

The Convention Center’s Hall A, through the coordination of more than a dozen local and federal agencies, can now accommodate 437 beds and is ready to accept 100 patients this week. (more…)
