14th and Euclid St, NW looking north

From DDOT:

“Today, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced a year-long demonstration project of bus lanes on 14th Street NW in Columbia Heights designed to improve bus performance as well as pedestrian and bicyclist safety.

“Washingtonians are riding the bus more than ever before, especially in the thriving 14th Street NW corridor,” said DDOT Director Jeff Marootian. “We expect this project to help us advance Mayor Bowser’s goal of improving bus service across all eight wards, particularly for transit-reliant residents.”

The demonstration project, set to begin this summer, will be installed on 14th NW Street between Euclid and Newton Streets NW. (more…)

Bryan reports:

“I was walking past the little funeral home at 6th and Florida last night and noticed the beautiful stairs had been damaged pretty badly. I can’t figure out how exactly because there are light posts in the way, but it appears that a car wrecked into the stairs and did quite a number on them. There was still a piece of the headlight sitting on the step and the tree across the sidewalk had an big gash in it but I cannot figure out how a car got in there from the street without hitting the light post in the way.

“Dear PoPville,

I wonder if you know what these chrome-color steel machines are (photo attached taken at L’Enfant station platform). These machines make a whirring mechanical noise and have been spotted at stations throughout the system. Any ideas?”

“Dear PoPville,

The last several nights- there are two mysterious trucks with what looks like giant vacuums on them next to the train tracks above 2nd and K St NE. They seem to start late evening and run non-stop until about midnight and are so loud! I’m a block away and Indoors, a decibel app messures 45dB and if I open the window of my apartment it reads ~80dB. Loud enough to be super annoying at night. Wondering if anyone in the community has insight as to what this machinery is and/or what the project is?”

6th and G Street, NW

From WMATA:

“Metro announced today the selection of Stonebridge and Rockefeller Group to redevelop its downtown DC headquarters site, the Jackson Graham Building (JGB), in the heart of the District’s Gallery Place commercial and entertainment area.

The developer will reposition the building – keeping the current Jackson Graham Building (JGB) structure – and reimagine it as a mixed-use commercial development, including the addition of three floors to the structure. The deal will generate long-term revenue for Metro through annual payments over the term of the 99-year ground lease agreement. (more…)
