“Alright guys, the time has come to help out our beloved @lucky.bar.dc . They haven’t asked for us to do this, but @potockikevin has been going to watch matches there and talking with Paul, they are in a tough spot.

Ourselves, @capcityblues and DC Armoury have put our rivalries aside and we are doing some Lucky Bar merch to help raise some funds to go into their pocket. It won’t be much, but it’s a start.

I’d like to hear thoughts on the Adams Morgan tennis courts on 18th street, home of many interpretations given the lack of guidance around the line system.

Are there 2 lines (one for each court)? And if you arrive to play tennis, do you need to pick one court to wait at and hope you picked the faster line?

Or is there one line for both courts? If there’s just one line, where is the best place for the line to form so that people realize there’s a line already. (more…)

The Citi Open Tennis Tournament Not Happening This Year After All

Last month the organizers of the Citi Open announced: “The current plan is for the Citi Open to host this year’s tournament without fans in attendance, but officials remain optimistic that as the region continues its phased reopening, and conditions improve, they may be granted permission to allow limited fans onsite.”

Alas a new release today says:

“After months of tireless work by our team and close collaboration with our many stakeholders, we are heartbroken to announce that we must, unfortunately, postpone the 52nd Citi Open until the summer of 2021. (more…)

“Nats super-fan”, Dr. Anthony Fauci will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for the Nats opening day Thursday

The most popular replacement names I’ve seen are Redtails, Red Wolves, Red Hawks, Red Pandas, Monuments and Warriors. Mark me for team Redtails.

“On July 3rd, we announced the commencement of a thorough review of the team’s name. That review has begun in earnest. As part of this process, we want to keep our sponsors, fans and community apprised of our thinking as we go forward.

Let’s Play Ball! I guess

Yesterday, per The Nationals, Mike Rizzo, president of baseball operations and general manager, issued the following statement:

“Per MLB’s protocol, all players and staff were tested for COVID-19 on Friday, July 3. Seventy-two hours later, we have yet to receive the results of those tests. We cannot have our players and staff work at risk. Therefore, we have cancelled our team workout scheduled for this morning. [Monday]

“We will not sacrifice the health and safety of our players, staff and their families. Without accurate and timely testing it is simply not safe for us to continue with Summer Camp. Major League Baseball needs to work quickly to resolve issues with their process and their lab. Otherwise, Summer Camp and the 2020 Season are at risk.”

Be that as it may the Nationals also report:

“The Washington Nationals – in conjunction with Major League Baseball – announced their 60-game 2020 schedule on Monday, along with a three-game exhibition slate. The 16th season of Nationals baseball will commence with an Opening Day matchup on ESPN against the New York Yankees at Nationals Park on Thursday, July 23rd at 7:08 p.m. ET. (more…)

Serious Pressure Mounts on Snyder to Change the Name

ADWeek broke the news:

“On Friday, three separate letters signed by 87 investment firms and shareholders worth a collective $620 billion asked Nike, FedEx and PepsiCo to terminate their business relationships with the NFL’s Washington Redskins unless the team agrees to change its controversial name.”

The Washington Post reports:

“FedEx on Thursday became the first major corporate backer of the Washington Redskins to call on the team to change its name, the most significant development yet amid mounting financial and political pressure on team owner Daniel Snyder in the long-running controversy.

Late Thursday evening, without making an immediate public statement, Nike appeared to remove all Redskins apparel for sale from its website.”
