We in the neighborhood are incredibly excited about this prospect. The now vacant lot is owned and managed by the city. For years it has been a veritable trash heap. I had been working with the city for months to clean up the site. Realizing we needed to provide the city an alternative aside from simply asking them to clean it up, I started a petition for a dog park to be located here. (more…)

Any idea if Harry Thomas Pool will be closed for remainder of the season? Locker rooms were overflowing with sewage and roaches yesterday (Saturday)”
and from another reader on Saturday around 4pm:
“Everyone just got kicked out of Harry Thomas pool because “sewage was pouring out of the locker room drains. It was wild! The staff told people to “wear shoes” as they exited through the locker rooms.”

Thanks to Terry for passing on the latest update about fixing the Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park Fountain, from NPS:
“The National Park Service is seeking funding for the repairs to the cascading fountain at Meridian Hill Park. Work needed to be completed before the fountain can operate includes additional rehabilitation of deteriorated concrete and replacement of the variable frequency drive water pump.”
