“On the heels of the challenging year 2020, twelve DC friends, creators and entrepreneurs come together to launch theTwelve, an experimental commerce and community experience designed to foster true connection, inspire hope and infuse fresh meaning into our lives.

Housed in a 3,600 sq ft raw commercial space in the Union Market District at 1262 5th Street NE, the year-long brick and mortar activation opens on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. theTwelve will offer our beloved community an interactive and curated experience that brings together three distinct areas of engagement, informed by our values of interconnectedness, beauty, sustainability and wellness, to build community, unify and heal.

The front room will offer 870sf of holistic retail, with vintage and new design-focused housewares, live plants, fragrance, and sustainable apparel and accessories–with each item being a touch point to our values. Beyond the shop, is the 1400sf gallery space that will engage community participation and encourage discovery. From MPD: “Hop-In Motor Vehicle Thefts Last Night

At approximately 12:10 AM, in the alley of the 200 block of 10th St. SE, a victim left his car running when he got out to open his parking gate. An unknown suspect then entered his vehicle and drove away. The victim suffered some injury when he tried to hold onto the car as it pulled away and fell.

At approximately 12:28 AM, in the 900 block of H St. NE, a victim left his car running when he parked and got out to throw away some trash. A juvenile suspect then entered his vehicle and attempted to drive away but was unable to put the car in gear. (more…)

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, January 9, 2021, in the Unit block of Florida Avenue, Northeast.

At approximately 5:28 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located a juvenile male victim, inside of an establishment, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 17 year-old Omari Dunn, of Northwest, DC. (more…)

“This afternoon at about 2:50 PM, 1D patrol officers heard gunshots near North Capitol St and L St NW. A 911 caller reported seeing a silver car shooting at someone on L St. A passing motorist’s vehicle was also struck by gunfire on North Capitol St. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Our quickly responding officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. One occupant fled the vehicle on foot and was stopped by officers; the vehicle fled the area. Upon stopping the suspect, the officers found a gun on him. Based on our detectives investigation, the suspect was arrested for ADW-Gun.

While an arrest has been made in this case, our detectives will continue to investigate to identify any other suspects and ensure a good case is presented to the US Attorney’s Office for prosecution. If anyone has relevant information, please call 202-727-9099 or anonymously text 50-411.”

“Approximately 11:40 am, an officer heard a Sound of a Gunshot in the 5400 block of 5th Street, NW. A canvass in the block produced one shell casing and damage to the windshield of a vehicle parked in the block.
