Thanks to Mary for sending the update on the bench divider over the weekend. Unclear if it was a rogue removal or an official removal. Commenters to the original post say: “There is an ANC meeting tomorrow night at the Mount pleasant library at 730 pm to decide what to do about these.”

UPDATE from DPR:
“The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) would like to thank the community for bringing this to our attention. The installation of the middle dividers was not authorized by the District government. Therefore, at DPR’s request, the Department of General Services (DGS) removed the dividers earlier this week.”

“Dear PoPville,
Noticed today that there’s some new hostile architecture in Lamont Park: wooden dividers installed on all the benches so folks can’t lie down. I’ve lived on the block facing this park for 7 years and have never found people resting on the benches to be a problem. Anyone have an idea who is responsible for this and how we can speak out against it?”

“Dear PoPville,
My friends and I live in an amazing three story rowhouse divided into apartments in our favorite part of DC. The excellent landlady unfortunately has to sell the house due to some health issues and we’re thinking to pool our money (and TOPA rights) to buy the house.
It makes a lot more sense to buy the home as a group then divide it into condos, so we’re not all stuck to living together for all time. Does anyone out there have any estimates of how much it costs to convert a pre-existing apartment building into condos?
Open to any other ideas on how to do this as well.”

Damn, that was fast. Hopefully it’s a genuine renovation and not another “renovation”.
