Tired thief or someone just having fun?

“Woke up to find this on our fence near H street. My guess is that it was taken from its home and the thief got tired of carrying it and just left it there. Would love to get it back to its owner.”

Update: “Even more random — my next door neighbor just sent an updated picture. Someone moved the lighthouse to another fence post, and added a Buddha figurine, mushroom figurines, and rocks.”

Gotta just be someone having fun…

found pup

“Dear PoPville,

I was walking my dog this morning and came across this distinguished gentleman (he’s a black and brown dachshund) cruising the streets by himself. He was found on the 600 block of F St NE wearing a blue collar with no tag. We brought him to Union Vet to be scanned and he has a chip but it is not registered. If anybody recognizes him they they can contact me at sam.zivin(at)gmail.com.”

Our poor plant!

“Dear PoPville,

It appears we have an H Street NE garden thief on our hands! Much to my surprise, as I left my home the other morning, I noticed that someone came along and cut the entire top off the dracaena plant in my front yard. This was not a simple assault either, clearly the horticultural pillager knew how to surgically remove the top of the plant in one cut. Why did this horror occur? Was someone just that envious of it’s beautiful green leaves, or was someone with a greener thumb than me sympathetic to its languishing? This plant had been with us for quite some time, so I’m very saddened by this!

I would chalk it up to kids, but the plant was not pulled out of the pot or broken. Clearly, as the picture indicates, someone precisely cut the top off. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them before? This is certainly bizarre. H Street NE neighbors–hide your plants and remain vigilant!”

From a press release:

“Doron Petersan, Sticky Fingers owner and two-time champion of Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, announces June 22 as the opening date of Fare Well, her highly anticipated bakery, bistro and bar. A bigger and bolder take on the plant-based dining experience that began at Sticky Fingers, Petersan’s award-winning Columbia Heights bakery café, Fare Well features an expanded bread program, grab-and-go breakfast and lunch service, a full bakery case, bar program, barista-serviced coffee counter and restaurant with classic diner-style service and seating. Located at 406 H Street NE, the 2,600-square-foot space is a casual, 46-seat neighborhood spot located walking distance from Union Station.

“When we were finalizing the idea for Fare Well, we realized our aim was to create a sort of forward-thinking throwback,” Petersan said. “We took our biggest inspiration from the classic American diner, and we think Fare Well is just the kind of place that will feel instantly familiar and comforting to first-time diners while giving its regulars plenty of reasons to keep coming back.”

Fare Well is open Wednesday through Sunday for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with extended bar hours on Fridays and Saturdays.

OK, maybe the project took way too long to carry passengers. Maybe it cost way too much money for what we got. Maybe it is beyond comprehension that it doesn’t run on Sundays. We can debate whether or not there should’ve been a dedicated lane but I’m moving beyond that. This is not the fault of the streetcar. This is the fault of the driver of the automobile. Shame on you Scion driver. Shame on you. The world does not revolve around you. You can’t just double park because you’re only going to run into the store “for a second”. No. No sir. NO MORE. Move your damn car and find a spot like everyone else. This nominee was at 4th and H St, NE – the streetcar didn’t catch up to me until 13th Street.

And by the by, this applies to all people double parking on busy streets with or without streetcars, especially during rush hour. I’m talking Georgia Avenue, Connecticut Avenue, you know who you are. I repeat, the world does not revolve around you and your schedule. Move your damn car.

Should you spot a selfish jackwagon double parked in front of a streetcar, or during rush hour please send a photo to [email protected] with a location/time where you saw it. If it turns out there was a life threatening emergency or a baby was being born I promise to offer up a prompt apology.
