DGS Launches Breakfast (All Day) in Dupont – Check Out the Menu – “new and improved sandwich counter” coming too

“GS Delicatessen & Specialty Bar, the new-school delicatessen from cousins and fourth generation Washingtonian’s Nick and David Wiseman, is now open for breakfast seven days a week.

Chef Eric McKamey, who recently joined DGS from acclaimed Mintwood Place, has created a menu celebrating the classic delicatessen, featuring bagel sandwiches, breakfast plates, sandwiches and seasonal specials. The new menu also features an extensive list of housemade sodas and a full coffee and espresso program.

DGS will start selling its housemade provisions, including meats, mustard, pickles, hot sauce and more to go. As always, DGS will feature only the best ingredients: sustainably raised meats and produce from local farms.

After 5 years in operation, David and Nick Wiseman have learned that there is deep nostalgia for the classic delicatessen experience, and our new menu is crafted in that spirit. The menu is a retrospective on the “best of” delicatessen.

“I saw white flames shooting out from underneath the stairs below Komi at Happy Cleaner”

Blair reports:

“About 11:50pm tonight (Sunday), during the craziest part of the rain storm I heard a really loud buzzing noise. I saw my lights flicker so looked out the window to see white flames shooting out (in time with the buzzing) from underneath the stairs below Komi at Happy Cleaner.

I immediately called 911 and the fire department arrived within 2 minutes. The fire never got out of the basement level.

It’s been over an hour and Pepco is now on the scene. After the first five minutes the vibe appears to be calm and under control. Happy to report the FD was super quick to respond.

You can see the electrical flame filling the basement area.”

Fire Damages Original Mandu on 18th Street “Closed for the foreseeable future as we recover and rebuild.”

Update from owner of Mandu:

“We closed early last night due to the holiday and the fire seemed to happen shortly after midnight or so. Still trying to figure out what happened but it was not kitchen/gas related, and it was contained to half of the first floor. The fire department out of precaution and protocol had to bust through the windows upstairs, which is why it seems like it was a two story fire but it was not.

Thankfully nobody was injured or hurt. The speed and execution of the DC Emergency Services (Fire, MPD, etc) was outstanding. Our focus now is to figure out a plan for our staff as we start to plan how to remodel and open as soon as possible.”
