Thanks to a couple of readers for sending word. Retrospect Coffee and Tea opened up at 19th and L St, NW back in July 2013. Their phone has been disconnected but their website said:
“Retrospect Coffee and Tea is a European-style coffeehouse with rich international flavor and an appreciation for both the art and the science of making the world’s finest beverages. Located in downtown Washington D.C. at 19th and K NW, it offers traditional Italian espresso, cappuccino, lattes, French press, café au lait, Spanish cortado, Soviet coffee, Swiss café, Turkish and Vietnamese coffees. Additionally, Retrospect features black coffee specially prepared using the pour-over method – each cup is handmade using precision calibrated equipment and its preparation is perfectly measured and timed.
Retrospect also offers a wide variety of specialty teas including such exquisite brands as Oolong, Phoenix, Peony White, Kenya Black, Herbal Energizer and Holy Detox. All of our teas are crafted with the best possible all-natural ingredients. Retrospect also offers an authentic Masala Chai that highlights the complexity and depth of flavor of quality black tea as well as a meticulously crafted selection of Indian spices.
In addition to coffee and tea service, Retrospect offers a lighter food menu, which ranges from New York style bagels and simple yet hearty breakfast sandwiches to gourmet items such as European Salami and salmon gourmet sandwiches. Delicious pastries are also available.”
Updates when we learn who takes over the space.

Yesterday Jose Andres ditches the Donald and today EaterDC reports:
“Chef Geoffrey Zakarian will no longer open a restaurant at the upcoming Trump Hotel.”
Zakarian was going to open The National:
“New Restaurant serving American and French cuisine. Total occupancy load is 350. Summer Garden with 60 seats.”

1775 K Street, NW
Sweet. Anyone take a taste of the Donburi, Bibimbap or Udon/Soba at Cafe Grande?

The petition worked!!
From the Washington Post:
“Donald Trump’s recent statements disparaging immigrants make it impossible for my company and I to move forward with opening a successful Spanish restaurant in Trump International’s upcoming hotel in Washington, D.C.,” the statement reads. “More than half of my team is Hispanic, as are many of our guests. And, as a proud Spanish immigrant and recently naturalized American citizen myself, I believe that every human being deserves respect, regardless of immigration status.”

From Change.org:
“In light of Donald Trump’s insensitive remarks against Mexican immigrants, José Andrés should reconsider opening a restaurant inside Trump’s D.C. hotel, set to open in 2016.
José Andrés embodies the American dream, having moved from Spain to start a family and create one of the most successful restaurant chains in culinary history.”

Olivia’s Diner opens on 19th Street today in the former G Street Food space just south of Dupont. Definitely looking forward to checking them out but note – at the moment they won’t be open 24 hours/day:

Buredo’s soft opening [825 14th Street, NW] still seems to be in full effect – thanks to a reader for sharing a photo of what it looks like.

This is the spot from the owners of City Tap House coming to former Tuscana West space across from Franklin Square park. You can see their NYC location’s menus here. Looks like the designers are the same folks who built out Provision No. 14 on 14th Street:
