1020 19th Street, NW

Back in late March we learned that Retrospect Coffee and Tea would be opening in the former Java Green space downtown. They’ve now opened and the space looks great. Their website says:

“Retrospect Coffee and Tea specializes in bringing the best cafe experience. The freshest ingredients are used, and each cup is brewed to order, which results in a coffee and tea flavor which is unmatched. Coffees and teas are complimented by an assortment of soft drinks and snacks.

7AM-6PM Monday-Sunday”

You can see their menu here. Photos of the inside after the jump.

And they have a little deli section too:

This place is great! I stopped in for an iced coffee (which is cold brewed) and it was fantastic. Awesome addition to my work neighborhood.

I’m happy for them but curious as to why they think they’re business will work were Java Green failed. I may be mistaken but I think there was yet another coffee shop there prior to Java Green. Doesn’t seem like a spot that works for that type of business. How will theirs be different? Maybe the deli section.

Java Green had no problem generating business, in fact, the place made a ton of money. The problem? The owner didn’t pay DC any taxes… The products here are great. Would definitely recommend.
