Given all the talk on the Greek monetary crisis it got me thinking – about Gyros. Excuse me, Yeeros. What’s the word on GRK? Or better to wait on line down the block at Greek Deli?

From a press release:
“On Wednesday, July 1, DC’s truly authentic Spanish restaurant, Taberna Del Alabardero, will kick off a month long celebration of Paella. To kick off the celebration, Taberna’s executive chef Javier Romero, will show his mastery and technique to cook the Paella on the outdoors patio area and give free tastings to the first 200 people who join the celebration.
Paella, a traditional mainstay of Spanish culture, is one of the most popular dishes on the restaurant’s menu, and a favorite of DC food critics and foodies alike. The free tastings start at 5:00 pm until the last morsel of Paella is finished.
Throughout the summer, Taberna’s menu offerings include new approaches and techniques to classic tapas and recipes that are fresh, organic and vegetarian. New creations that are incorporated into menus seasonally showcase the range of authentic Spanish cuisine and provide an opportunity to share Spanish culture.
WHEN: Wednesday, July 1, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
WHAT: Free Paella Tastings (for the first 200 people)
WHERE: Taberna Del Alabardero, 1776 I St., NW, (18th St. btwn H & I)”

Buredo did a sneak peek Saturday and are soft open today too – I’m told the grand opening will be Thursday soon. Anyone get a taste of some burrito-size sushi?

“Dear PoPville,
Just opened the Vidalia site and found this note:
Effective July 1, 2014, Vidalia will be open for dinner only! Private Dining is available during the day hours for large groups. please contact Rachel Forester at the information below for details.
As you may know, Vidalia has one of the best lunch deals in DC. I wonder if the closure is just for summer, or permanent.”
What are some other good lunch specials around town?

Thanks to all who tweeted and emailed us an update to the former Jonathan’s Gourmet and G Street Food space at 19th and L St, NW. Olivia’s Diner should be opening very soon now – stand by.

“Dear PoPville,
there’s a new permit sign in front of the historic buildings at 11th and K. Alludes to a ‘new 13 story hotel’ in the works. Does that mean these fine buildings are doomed?”
Ed. Note: I remember a raze notice was posted here back in 2012.

Odd – Which Wich opened this location at 1025 Vermont Ave, NW just north of K Street only back in Dec. 2014. Thanks to a reader for sending:
“Looks like the Which Wich that opened a few months ago at L and Vermont has closed and is moving. A bummer, I liked it!”

Trouble at Second State who opened in the former Mighty Pint space back in Oct. 2014:

The windows are papered over and word on the street is that there may also be some issues beyond maintenance needs – stay tuned:
