“Capital Bikeshare Announces a Significant Expansion of Weekday Morning Bike Corrals”

“Motivate, the operators of the Washington, DC region’s popular Capital Bikeshare program, announced today it will be significantly expanding its weekday morning bike corral service in downtown Washington, DC in an effort to meet the increasing demand for places to park or “dock” during peak usage hours. The three current Capital Bikeshare corrals are located at 21st and I Street NW, 17th and K Street NW/Farragut Square, and 13th and New York Ave NW. The three new Capital Bikeshare corrals will be located at 20th and Virginia Ave NW, 5th and F Street NW and Maryland and Independence Ave SW. All corrals will be open on weekday mornings (federal holidays excluded) from 8am to 12pm until late Fall. (more…)

This is the former Ceiba space that closed in 2014.  The newly posted liquor license placards say:

“An upscale fine dining restaurant serving seafood and steak that offers Live Entertainment.”

Ocean Prime’s website says:

“Cameron Mitchell Restaurants is thrilled to announce that its award-winning modern American restaurant and lounge, Ocean Prime will open its 13th location nationwide in Washington, DC in fall 2016. Its first foray into the nation’s capital, Ocean Prime will be located in the Colorado Building at 1341 G Street, NW. Serving lunch Monday through Friday and dinner nightly, Ocean Prime will offer guests prime seafood, steaks, handcrafted cocktails and world-class wines in a captivating ambiance with signature genuine hospitality.”

Moxie’s soft opened in the former Retrospect Coffee and Tea space that closed last summer and was Java Green before that.   Moxie’s website says:

“Visit ICEBERGS in the Museum’s Great Hall. Designed by James Corner Field Operations, the installation opens as part of the annual Summer Block Party series, July 2 – September 5.

Visitors will:

  • Explore a fantastical glacial sea designed by landscape architects
  • Ascend to a viewing area inside the tallest berg
  • Traverse an undersea bridge or slide down an ice chute
  • Sample Japanese kakigori shaved ice provided by the restaurant Daikaya
  • Learn about how design can transform spaces and lives

ICEBERGS is built from re-usable construction materials, such as scaffolding and polycarbonate paneling, a material commonly used in building greenhouses. The 20′ high “water line” allows panoramic views from high above the ocean surface and down below among the towering bergs. The tallest “bergy bit,” at 56′, reaches to the third story balcony of the Museum. ICEBERGS occupies a total area of 12,540 square feet. (more…)

The demolition of the old WashPo building has created a dangerous situation for bikers. Just wanted to let you know:

“Hello, due to the demolition of the old WashPo building, the bike lane has been removed and now bikers have a “bike path” which is not segregated from traffic on a block where the roadways are down to 2. This is a choke point and with the increasing traffic in DC due to the metro repairs, this is also becoming a serious hazardous block.
What do you intend to do about it ?

The demolition crew used to have a properly segregated bike lane until recently but it was removed. I almost got squished on the concrete barriers yesterday by a USG truck that, in spite of my banging on his truck, did not stop and continued to squeeze me. This is unacceptable. Once again in DC, there is no plan B.”

“Huge tree branch just fell at 9th and Constitution. Landed on light, blocking road, possibly landed on people. Large EMT presence. We ran out to try to help, but there were too many cooks in the kitchen digging through the tree mess and we needed to leave to make room for EMTs.”

“Fallen tree with victims vicinity 9th St X Constitution Ave NW. 2 pts removed being transported by EMS. Confirming no one else beneath tree.”
