Geoff reports:
“There’s a three ladder fire at the corner of 13th and Columbia NW. It looks like the fire started in the blue house on Columbia as the windows are smashed and there’s signs of smoke damage to the exterior. I’ve never seen so many fire engines and fire fighters for a house fire before. I hope everyone is alright.”

Been a while since we had an awesome hawk falcon sighting. The destruction is epic. Video from Saturday is not for the squeamish:

1413 Park Road, NW
A reader reports:
“I noticed new signage at 1413 Park Rd NW across from Mi Cuba Cafe/Senor Chicken in Columbia Heights [Ed. Note: Senor Chicken is soon to be a fast casual Ethiopian Restaurant and Coffeehouse, LeTena.] that says Vietnamese Chelsea Restaurant. It was formally an organization called “Change Inc” and has been vacant for awhile.”
Ed. Note: Pho 14 is also down the block now serving beer at 1436 Park Road, NW.

“Dear PoPville,
I shared the following message with Giant Food earlier today. It seems no matter how much sunlight we put on the conditions of their Columbia Heights store, old problems return. It would be great if you could share the post below:
Good morning,
I’ve been a resident of the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC for the past 10 years. For most of those years, I’ve lived within a block of the Giant on Park Road. Due to its convenience, it’s my primary source for groceries. While professionalism and customer service have improved dramatically in recent years, wait times are once again becoming a problem.
This was a significant problem back in 2011 that resulted in a promise to keep all lanes open during peak shopping hours. This promise has been rescinded without notice and long lines have once again returned. (more…)

1375 Kenyon Street, NW
A reader reports:
“Jimmy johns is coming to Columbia Heights adjacent to &pizza. The application is posted in the window.”
Ed. Note: presumably this is the former Julia’s Empanada space?

1375 Kenyon Street, NW
From an email:
“&pizza Columbia Heights will open this Thursday!”

14th and Spring Street, NW
and another reader reports:
“Just a heads up, the Columbia Heights Pizza D’oro on 14th and Spring Rd opened last week.”

Thanks to a reader for sending:
“Looks like there will be another prime retail spot opening up at DCUSA soon.”
Perfect world – who’d you like to see take over the space?

“Dear PoPville,
My 2013 13 inch MacBook Air with 8 GB RAM and 256 solid state drive was stolen Saturday from my white 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid from the street in the 3500 block of 13th Street in Columbia Heights. It is between 13th and Otis and the Mount Rona Missionary baptist church. It came in a black soft laptop case that was recycled plastic/nylon with lime green zipper pulls. I was parked from 11-3, but a witness said that she saw the break in at 2:41 PM when she came back and not before when she left an hour and a half earlier. Also two books were in the laptop case, File Solutions and a Taiwanese New Testament. [email protected]”
