Update: “we have not located any victims of an assault” – “any word on the apparent murder at view14 building?”

Another reader reported last night:

“At about 3:30 this afternoon [Monday], there was some type of altercation on the 6th floor of View 14 Apartments, resulting in blood puddles and spatters up and down the hallway, a cordoned off elevator full of blood with police tape, and police that have been camped outside of an apartment since then.

The building sent a vague email that has only caused increased fear and alarm for all residents, but there are rumors swirling amongst residents that a fellow resident was stabbed and there is a potential body in an apartment as the apartment is processed for evidence and a search warrant is executed.

It’s terrible — and scary — that as a resident on the floor where the incident happened, I cannot get information from the building or the police to know what happened and if my family is in danger. If there’s any chance that you have better luck in getting to the bottom of this, I believe that my family and fellow View 14 community members would feel a bit safer.”

Update from MPD:

“MPD units responded to the location yesterday after being requested by members of DCFEMS. Upon arrival on the scene, an individual was located who had minor lacerations to his legs and feet. The concern from the DCFEMS staff was that the amount of blood in the hallway and residence did not appear to be consistent with the minor injuries on the subject. Unfortunately, the injured individual does not know how he sustained the injuries or how the blood came to be in the building. Our officers and detectives secured the location as a possible crime scene and obtained a search warrant to search the premises for any assault victims and/or evidence. No other individuals were located and we are continuing to investigate. At no time did we receive any calls from tenants in the building regarding any assault or other matter taking place there and in interviews with residents last night, nobody reported seeing or hearing any altercation.

At this time, we have not located any victims of an assault and we are continuing to ongoing investigate which is why it is not currently a crime on the 3D crime list today.

“I was counting money one night at the end of my shift at Meridian Pint, and came across a silver certificate. Not very unusual, I have found 20 or so over the years. Then I noticed that this particular bill had a bunch of signatures on both sides. After a little research, I discovered that this is a short snorter — a bill that was signed by members of a flight crew, often in the military. Given the date on the bill of 1935, it’s likely that this was from World War 2. Anyone out there have any suggestions for finding the origin of this particular bill?”

noticed on my bike commute this morning that ddot has finally repaved the mangled and unmarked asphalt humps at the bottom of the 13th street hill, just north of florida avenue, that were wreaking such havoc on unwary bikers over the last several years (e.g., causing accidents like this one). so, progress, i guess.”

“Dear PoPville,

I was on a bus going up 16th St last evening and the traffic was crawling. Coming close to Columbia Rd I saw one reason for the slowdown – a car being pushed up the street by two people. No easy task in rush hour, and in today’s heat and humidity. Vehicles were making room for the car to be pushed over until it was in the curb lane.

Then I saw a pedestrian step off the curb, get behind the car and start pushing. A few feet up the street someone else got behind the car and started pushing the car. A few feet more, another person joined in to help push the car onto a side street and out of heavy traffic. The people who helped push the car then walked off in different directions. A random act of kindness, as seen from an S2 bus.

With all that happens in our sometimes not-so-fair city, there are also times when the kindness of strangers shows up in unexpected places.”

There’s been some terrible shit happening these last few weeks, and though it’s no secret I love Little Free Libraries, I realize this is not on par with the other awfulness we’ve seen but we can’t deny there are serious issues unresolved. Serious issues. A reader reports:

“Little free library set on fire right next to the North Columbia Heights Community Garden in the alley between Park, Sherman, Lamont, and 11th.”

Update from another reader:

“I reported the arson to the MPD this morning. Two very nice officers came and informally looked at the damage. However, they didn’t take a formal report because I don’t own/run the Little Free Library. They said they would take a formal report from whomever owns/runs the library. I’m not sure who that would be. Maybe a PoPville reader knows?”

“Another follow-up: I want to commend the MPD and the six officers that came by and investigated the burnt library this evening. One of the officers also took statements from me and one of my neighbors. They’re trying to contact the community organizations in charge of the Little Free Libraries.”

My beloved bicycle was stolen last night out of my garage on the 1300 block Spring Rd. It was a pretty amazing bike that I had custom built a few years ago in Amsterdam, road it to Paris, and then shipped it back to DC. It’s a black WorkCycle crossframe; pretty unique looking so I simply ask that my neighbors please keep an eye out for it. It was obviously a cherished possession. I’ve filed a police report, but am not expecting a miracle.

25-year-old Kevin Johnson, of Southeast, DC, for Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance
21-year-old Demetrius Carroll, of refused address, for Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance
