Thanks to Allison for sending a shot of the roof at Local 16: “They just started tearing it up yesterday”

Local 16’s website still says: “We are temporarily closed for winter “hibernation” and planning to reopen soon. We will post updates here once we decide on opening date.”

Last we heard Local 16 was hoping to reopen in June. I’ve emailed the owner and will update when I hear back.

After we posted about Velvet Lounge and Dodge City closing yesterday, a reader wrote: “The new lease is set for a new gay bar.”

A tipster (with an over 95% accuracy rating. update now 93%) tells me that it is likely from the same ownership as Dirty Goose located next door.

Update: “A TDG (Dirty Goose) owner here. We do know the plans for the spaces, but it is not us. We deeply respect the new operator and will let them announce as they see fit”

Stay tuned for when the announcement is made.

Another painful blow to what once was fell last week. Velvet Lounge posted on IG:

“Thank you so much for all the years of love. We are closing the physical establishment for good but we’d just like to say thank you and leave you with this. Please keep you head up and continue to try your best, you gave us some of your most beautiful years so thank you. @velvetloungedc and everyone who was ever apart of that experience. The end of an ear.” (more…)

From MPD: “MPD is on the scene of a confirmed shooting in the 600 block of O Street NW. Lookout is for a black Chevrolet SUV, last seen eastbound on O Street NW.”

A reader reported: “10-20 shots fired 7th and o st NW 10:35 pm last night. Police had flashlights out looking for bullets on 7th st.”

Late last month a reader sent word some of the best tacos in town would no longer be available. Alas it was true, here’s the official word from Tacos El Chilango:

“We’re very sad to announce after 9 years serving the neighborhood that we have decided to close Tacos El Chilango. The principal reasons are the increased scarcity of labor and personal health factors. (more…)

A few readers reported to me from 14th and V St, NW hearing: “several loud gun shots at approximately 12:45am.”

MPD reports to me via email: “At approximately 12:40 am, MPD responded to the 1400 block of V Street, NW, for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim, seated in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound, at the listed location. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. This case remains under active investigation at this time.”
