Update – thanks to a commenter for finding the facebook message:
“We’re sad to announce that the U-Street location will not be the re-opening of the New Orleans Cafe that we had hoped for. We hope to re-open one day, but we have no news on when, where or if it will happen. We love our customers and are so blessed to have had their patronage during the past two decades.”
A reader reports:
“Do you have any idea what happened to the new Bistro on U street that was opened about a month ago by the folks that operated Bardia’s New Orleans cafe in Adam’s Morgan? The new Bistro on U has been empty and closed for like two weeks now. I’m bummed because I thought it was a great value and a good addition to the neighborhood.”

“Dear PoPville,
I live in a row house on 11th Street (not exactly a dark alleyway). On Monday night, I was reading in bed when I became convinced someone was walking in our house and climbing the steps towards our bedrooms. I woke my husband up telling him that. We took a look around the house and did not notice anything except that we have forgotten to bolt the front door (we came home in the middle of the storm). I went back to sleep, feeling like a complete idiot and mortified to have deprived my better half of much needed sleep.
Two days later, he asked me if I had seen his rain jacket. We started joking that it must have been the ghost. And then we realized his sneakers had also disappeared and stopped laughing altogether.
Luckily (and unusually), we had nothing of value lying around like keys, wallet, phone… but it was pretty scary in retrospect. This was one mistake, on a Monday night. We were home and I happened to be awake, but we got hit.
Don’t forget to bolt your door.”

About a month a reader wrote in asking for advice on how how much rent to charge for her “3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house on Florida Ave. just north of U Street (by Blind Dog Cafe and 9:30 Club).”
The follow up:
“Had a TON of interest at $3500, and a group signed a lease on Friday!”
Nice work to all who suggested $3500!

Damn it! I spent a good part of 20s in Stetson’s. Ach, I think I’m becoming that old guy…
The listing says:
“Great opportunity for a restaurant on U Street. The property offers two floors of bar and restaurant space, rear patio, 24 tap line system and a lower level with a walk-in refrigerator, reach-in freezer, and ample storage. The business (Stetson’s Bar), Class C Tavern license, inventory and owned fixtures including two HD projectors convey. Zoned C-2-A. Appointment only. 24 hour notice required.”
It’s going for $2,400,000. Well, when in Rome, I’m off to set up a kickstarter page! For $50 you will get an ice cold 12oz Budweiser. For $500 you will get a 12oz Budweiser and a shot of your choice.
Oof, I’m so sad.

“Installation of Living Time Line: Paul Robeson on Saturday May 30, 2015 on a U St. alleyway in D.C. Cory L Stowers received a commission from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities to create this mural, which depicts the life of Paul Robeson. The mural contains an image recognition technology which triggers access to rich content, and is the first use of this technology for an outdoor mural.”
Very cool!

A reader reports:
“It looks like muleh is packing up their stuff, but I don’t see any sign posted. Wonder if the rent is too damn high? The old Vastu space is still sitting vacant. Did you see the article on the new urban blight in the New Yorker recently? I think this is happening a log in DC now, and there’s no incentive at all for landlords to rent their spaces rather than wait for that big-fish rental prospect.”

Earlier this month a reader sent in a shot of 11th and W St, NW but it was cut off a bit with no landscaping in yet. So I wanted to see for myself and a get a few other angles – here it is:
