Back in June we learned:

“…Together they aim to bring a service-driven, neighborhood retreat with cocktails that will just happen to be, of the highest quality.

The bar’s concept yields from the service industry’s well-known “service bar” where the goal is to make a large number, and variety of cocktails, quickly and well. SBDC aims to define what is to be a casual, neighborhood cocktail bar with high quality cocktails, and a price range that says “see you back here tomorrow.” Featured highlights include an all-day happy hour menu with $7 Cocktails, $7 Pop & Ponies, buy-one-get-one shots and a “snug room”, modeled after the small, private drinking rooms of the 18th century Scottish and British pub culture. The SBDC Snug Room will have an intimate capacity of five to six guests, with a special window to the bartender, and offer a shareable cocktail menu exclusive to the Snug Room…”

island

“Dear PoPville,

So DDOT did a beautiful job redoing the intersection of Florida/15th/W Sts. There is better traffic flow and a really nice protected (2-way!) stretch of the bike lane, and it looks great. But is anyone ever going to use these bike racks that are isolated on the traffic island? They’re not next to businesses, houses, or the park. Not clear why anyone would park a bike there except to get it stolen…”

Ed. Note: I’ll also echo kudos for the protected bike lane. And I don’t see why folks wouldn’t use the bike racks – it’s not far from Meridian Hill, houses on 15th and businesses on 14th and U. As to whether or not bikes will get stolen there, that I don’t know.

Jubilee
1407 T Street, NW

Thanks to Caryn Jean for sending. We learned Ice Cream Jubilee would be taking over the BakeHouse space back in late August.

[“Bakehouse will continue to operate a wholesale bakery out of the shared space while Ice Cream Jubilee operates the front of house as a full-service ice cream shop.”]

They still have to go through the “DC Permit / Licensing process” so stay tuned for an exact opening date.

Alphonse opened with great anticipation after a major renovation back in August 2014. This was the spot from one of the owners of Russia House and Biergarten Haus. Thanks to all who sent @PoPville tweets. Were there any other fans?

Thanks to Mike Levine for sending:

“RIP Alphonse on U Street. You were one of my favs — yet so few got to know you.”

Although hard to fathom in the present, The Lincoln Condominium, just off U Street, was a pioneer and trail blazer in its early days. Newly built and delivered in 2000, the 156 unit block-sized building was a huge (literally and figuratively) addition to an area that, at the time, was still populated by abandoned properties and limited commercial activity. EYA’s Harrison Square townhomes were built around the same time. Pre-Whole Foods, 2 bedroom units sold new in The Lincoln for around $150,000. (more…)

buddha b
12th and U Street, NW

A reader reports earlier this week:

“I think Buddha B Yoga on 12th and U Street closed. They no longer have a working phone and all their classes online are missing.”

On their facebook they wrote that Sunday was their last day:

“Thank you to all of the YOGIS and Buddha B TEACHERS who have practiced love and compassion — Last day of classes at Buddha B Yoga tomorrow 8/21/2016 OM SHANTI”
