11th and Vermont Ave, NW

A reader reports: “shots fired around 11 PM last night at 11th and Vermont NW by Logan Circle. Woke up to 4-5 VERY loud, distinct shots, and not seconds later cops were swarming the area. Hard to tell in picture but cops were out with flashlights, seemed like they were looking at cars for bullet holes or casings.” (more…)

Zeina asks (and others sent photos) “any info about the shooting @ Kiss Lounge in Shaw?”

I haven’t seen any official word but per usual the ever present Alan Henney has a bit of detail:

“SHOTS FIRED INVESTIGATION– Police are investigating after report of exchange of gunfire INSIDE a business at 7th and T Sts NW-DC in the Shaw area. Nobody was found injured.” (more…)

Awesome. Thanks to John for sending: ” Bald eagle spotted eating on telephone pole in alley behind N St NW near 5th St on the morning of the 25th.”

Some other Bald Eagles recent sightings here.

If you spot a hawk or any interesting wildlife around town, lunching or otherwise, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted it to [email protected] and I’ll add it to the queue. Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

From The Neighborhoods:

“UPDATE: I am sad to announce that we’ll be closing down The Neighborgoods retail shop next week. We were given the opportunity to get out of our lease early and with the unknowns of covid, as well as other business channels being up in the air (wholesale, markets, etc…), we decided it was the best business decision to get out early and save the monthly expenses of running the shop to keep The Neighborgoods going and growing in new directions.

PLEASE NOTE: This does not mean The Neighborgoods as a business is closing down! You will still be able to find us online, at other stores who sell our products across the country, and at markets when they start opening up again including the @downtownholidaymarket that is officially happening this year (we’ll be there Dec. 8 – 23)!

This wasn’t an easy decision to make. (more…)

From a press release:

“After COVID delayed its long-anticipated opening, sustainable plant-centric restaurant Oyster Oyster turned to take-out, serving local farm dinners and vegetable-focused fare to-go beginning in August of this year. But the Shaw eatery has two exciting dining experiences launching this weekend: its first foray into on-premise outdoor dining, featuring private pizza, pinball and oyster parties in its funky “Oyster Garage” space; and a daytime coffee shop pop-up with local RĀKO Coffee Roasters.

“2-HOUR PARKING” AT OYSTER GARAGE (more…)
