Sweet new addition to the already awesome Right Proper Brewing Company – Cheese! The former cheese buyer/lead cheesemonger at the now-closed Cowgirl Creamery, Tim Lake, has been at Right Proper since December.

Tim tells me “we’ll be launching a full cheese counter this weekend (4/5) to coincide with new lunch service hours at 11:30am, Sat-Sun. We have about 20-25 cheeses that guests can order on-site as cheese plates, or can have wrapped up for take-out, along with growler-fills. Many of the cheeses are chosen specifically to be paired with the fresh beers on tap.

To start though, guests can expect an array of styles – local, domestic, imported; raw, pasteurized; cow, sheep, goat; mild, funky. Housemade accompaniments (pickles, mustards, pates) are available with cured meats forthcoming.

Lunch service starts at 11:30am and rolls uninterrupted into dinner at 5pm. Saturdays & Sundays for now.”

This could be awesome – in response to a zoning query on the Shaw listserve – a resident responds:

“The intention is to make a café. The proprietors are long-time neighbors in the area so we are quite looking forward to having it on Marion St.”

The corner of Marion and P Street, NW is right across the street from the newly renovated playground at the Kennedy Rec Center.

One reader writes:

“I saw and heard quite a commotion outside at 5th and Florida NW starting around 9 pm. MPD, WMATA cops, undercover cops, and an ambulance are all over the place. The cops quickly unloaded the bus, but there seems to be a few guys hanging around screaming.”

Another writes:

“Last night around 9:00 or so there was about 7 cop cars around 5th and Florida. Stories were varying on what happened but I believe there was a fight on the metro bus and everyone had to get off and switch metro buses. The guy that started the fight was apparently causing commotion on the street and that is when the cops came. Does anyone know exactly what happened?”

From a press release:

“Just two blocks from the Shaw Metro station in northwest Washington, DC, locally-based boutique real estate developer Community Three Development has topped out its latest project: a 22-unit condominium building with contemporary flair and an exhaustive list of energy efficient and sustainable building features. Centrie, located at 435 R Street, NW, is scheduled to deliver in May 2014 and will be the first new condo development of its size in Shaw in over a decade.

Urban Pace, which provides innovative sales and marketing services to real estate developers in Washington’s urban neighborhoods, will begin pre-selling Centrie’s one- and two-bedroom condominium residences shortly, with prices beginning in the $300,000’s. “The Centrie is just the kind of project we love, offering buyers the benefits of home ownership and a chance to live in one of the city’s most dynamic sectors,” said Lynn Hackney, President, Urban Pace.

“The name Centrie developed to represent the spirit of the place, not just because it’s practically at the center of everything, with direct access to Washington’s hippest neighborhoods, but also because ‘centrie’ is an urban term referring to something original, cool, poetic, inspiring, intelligent, sincere, unique, and classy – just like the people who will live here,” said Grant Epstein, President of Community Three.

Community Three acquired the site and its long-vacant one-story building, formerly occupied by a dry cleaning operation, in 2012. Before demolishing the old structure and commencing construction of Centrie in 2013, the company completed an environmental remediation program that included cleaning the soil, improving storm water filtration, lowering overall levels of airborne chlorofluorocarbons, and removing groundwater impurities from the site and surrounding areas. “We are proud to be repurposing what was a derelict, long-neglected commercial storefront with a careful infill strategy and sensitive site restoration, ultimately allowing this site to play an important role in the continued transformation of Shaw and the city at large.”

Epstein, an architect who formerly worked at the renowned architectural firm Torti Gallas and Partners, and his team designed the building after seeking extensive input from the local community. The 22 residences, 13 of which will have private outdoor terraces, will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, white modern cabinetry, solid quartz countertops, hardwood floors, solid-core doors, custom tiling, and insulated aluminum windows among countless other high quality finishes. Unlike many low-rise multifamily buildings in the area, Centrie will also offer elevator access and private parking along with secure bicycle storage for every resident.”

“I found a dog this morning at 4th and R NW. She’s very sweet and seems to be someone’s dog who has been lost for a few days. She didn’t have a collar or microchip. She’s currently at Washington Humane Society on NY Ave.”

6th and Rhode Island Ave, NW

“Dear PoPville,

The post on Rib Pit reminded me of another place that I stumbled across this weekend. I’m not sure if its been covered on PoPville, but have you heard of Mr. P’S Ribs? We stumbled upon the place [6th and Rhode Island Ave, NW] over the weekend and it was spectacular.

The ribs are sold out of a really old school bus in the vacant lot at the corner of Rhode Island and 6th. For $11 you get a HUGE serving of ribs, two sides, and bread – you can barely get one small plate for that price 7 blocks west. The bare bones of the place is what makes it great – two tables sitting in the middle of a vacant lot surrounded by barbed wire and a menu written on white printer paper. The people were friendly and the food/service was awesome. If they shortened the bus into a truck and served downtown at lunch, I’d go (almost) every day.

Do you have any other details on the place? Is it permanent addition to the neighborhood?
