All Purpose Pizzeria from Owners of Boundary Stone and Red Hen Now Hiring, Close to Opening in Shaw

Very high up on my eagerly anticipated openings!! Our last update was almost a year ago when we they posted their liquor license placard:

“A fast food casual and café style restaurant with bar which shall serve pizza and Italian food with 94 seats and total occupancy load of 125. Sidewalk Café with 16 seats.”

Now they’re almost ready and hiring. They’re located right next door to Espita Mezcaleria who opened last month at 9th and N St, NW. Stay tuned for an exact opening date for All Purpose Pizzeria soon.

“Dear PoPville,

I have two friends that live in Shaw (declining to give specific address) and figured this story was worth sharing with a clip of the perpetrator included. The two women live across the street from each other, and were both in one of their front yards on Friday 4/18 afternoon. The neighbor was getting ready to leave and walk across the street to go home when she paused because she saw a man walking down the street in front of her house, squat down with his hands in his pants in front of her house, and then proceed to throw his own feces at her front door. She yelled at him, and he yelled back and continued on his way. The cops showed up quickly and were obviously flabbergasted. Video of crap thrower at 0:15 in clip.”

Ed. Note: Whoever is reading this should thank me for not the posting the photo. I’m coming off of a vicious 24 hour food poisoning (I can tell you stories about my day posting yesterday) and looking at the photo gave me the exact same feeling…

A reader reports on one of the last blighted corners near the Convention Center:

“Construction fencing has been erected around the Marriott Development project at 9th & L Sts NW. A surveyor team was on site too. Can’t wait to see this site developed.”

Capstone Development previously posted:

“Capstone, along with its partner Quadrangle Development, is currently developing a mixed use project on a site located at 9th Street NW and L Street NW. The $230 million project includes a 310-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel, a 190-room Residence Inn by Marriott hotel, and 230 residential units. The project is located in the Shaw Historic district and includes the redevelopment of a number of historic buildings located along 9th Street NW. Capstone recently completed the PUD process and is currently overseeing the design and financing of the project, which is projected to break ground in 2015.”

Cooper Carry adds:

“In addition, the Lurgen, an historic apartment building on L Street will be completed renovated and repositioned and finally, a civil war era home will be relocated along L Street approximately 30 feet in order to maximize its potential within the design. The project will be supported with two levels of underground parking. Approximately 3,000 GSF of ground floor retail will be placed in three of the townhomes.”

“Georgia Avenue Dedicated Bus Lanes have opened today”

From DDOT:

“Beginning Monday, April 11, 2016, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will begin operation and enforcement of the Georgia Avenue NW Dedicated Bus Lanes from Florida Avenue to Barry Place, NW. The dedicated bus lanes will be in effect Mondays to Saturdays, between 7 am and 10 pm.

The following vehicles will be allowed to travel along the bus lanes: transit buses, tour buses, charter buses, school buses, active passenger service taxicabs, bicycles (not pedicabs), paratransit service vehicles and authorized emergency vehicles.

Driving in bus lanes is prohibited for all other motorists, unless they are making turns at intersections or driveways. When making turns, motorists are allowed to enter the bus lane 40 feet prior to turning. Parking is also restricted while the bus lanes are in operation.

A red, high friction surfacing will be added to the Georgia Avenue NW Dedicated Bus Lanes in late spring 2016 to further identify them; however, bus lanes will officially be active and regulated starting next Monday, April 11.

Signage consistent with the operation of these bus lanes will be posted along the corridor.

Motorists are urged to follow new traffic patterns and adhere to bus lane regulations as fines will be imposed for failure to obey bus lane regulations.”
