“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to alert you to gunshots fired that took place at lunch time Friday right in front of the Shaw playground at 7th and P St. You can see the yellow markers showing each shell casing. A total of 6 shots were fired. When I drove by and asked the police what happened all they said was “destruction of property.” I was so disappointed by this response that I walked back demanding to speak with the office in charge. Only when I pushed did they admit it shots were fired right in front of the playground. The even more concerning thing was that they seemed to be cleaning the scene up quickly so it was as if nothing happened. A few minutes later all police presence was gone.”

“A Vegas Wedding for Charity at the Hot Dog House of Matrimony THURSDAY, JUNE 21st 2018

Ivy and Coney, located at 1537 7th St NW and DC’s #1 Underground Engagement Ring Reseller for five years running, is proud to present it’s latest creation, Vegas Wedding at the Hot Dog House of Matrimony. In a year where the world has turned its attention to nuptials across the pond, we are here to remind people of America’s greatest contribution to marriage, being wed on the fly with no regard for any sort of commitment or future together. Nothing shows our freedom and frivolity more than by getting married to that stranger you met at the casino four hours ago with a ceremony overseen by Elvis as your closest slot machine friends cry and hoot and holler. And we will not stand for this English aggression on our limited attention spans. This most splendid of occasions will start on May 19th (there’s nothing happening that day, right?) and conclude on June 21st with an all out debaucherous final “reception” for charity.

While Megan and Harry tie the knot in front of a crowd of dignitaries and heads of state, you can get married* FOR FREE in front of a crowd of tipsy strangers. That’s right, for free! We will pay for your DC marriage license, provide a licensed officiant, toast your vows with Malort, and chauffeur you through Shaw in our customized somehow-still-running 1977 El Camino.** Who needs a horse-drawn carriage when you can have 4,000 lbs of American steel pull you down 7th street in style? From a press release:

“To kick-off patio season, Morris American Bar is excited to announce its casual outdoor companion will open on Tuesday, May 15th with an enticing selection of fix-style cocktails. Aptly named Fix Bar, the menu’s fix drinks – which came into popularity in the 19th century – may be likened to boozy (read: deliciously grown-up) snowcones. These non-traditional sour cocktails are always served over crushed ice and feature a base spirit, citric acid, and sweetener (e.g., sugar, honey, liqueur) – making them a quintessential outdoor libation.

Fix Bar’s casual and dog-friendly patio is a departure from Morris’ sophisticated and dreamy interior. Master barman David Strauss – who honed his meticulous affinity for service and technique while training under the late Sasha Petraske (Milk & Honey, Dutch Kills, Varnish) – brings a playful and lighthearted approach to cocktailing at Fix Bar, boozy snowcones and all. Guests seeking to relax and unwind will find Fix Bar is an everyday oasis with minimal restrictions.

Fix Bar has capacity for 60 guests and is walk-in only.

“Dear PoPville,

I’m among the many Royal Wedding enthusiasts in DC excited to celebrate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming wedding.  I’m even hosting my own viewing party.  After hearing about Pop-Up Bar DC’s Royal Pop-Up and seeing local media coverage of their drink specials and other themed items, I was looking forward to stopping by this week.  That is, until I read the drink menu and saw the “When Harry Met Megan” cocktail consisting of Monkey Shoulder Scotch, Ginger, Banana, and Lemon —https://popupbardc.com/menu/.

I am at a loss for words on my feelings about the racial overtones of the ingredients in this drink. I have showed the menu to several people of different racial backgrounds and the reaction is the same–complete disgust and disbelief that an establishment in DC could be so blatantly racist and hateful. 9th and Q Street, NW

I don’t know. Maybe. This is the word on the street!! Though I give this tipster an 85% accuracy rating. French Quarter Brasserie closed in January and Shaw Bijou closed in January of 2017. Chaplin’s is located down the street at 9th and P Street, NW and opened back in 2014. I hear the plans are to make the former Shaw Bijou a Japanese concept. STAY TUNED.
