1909 9th Street, NW

On Monday we broke the news of the legendary Etete closing at 1942 9th Street, NW just south of U Street but don’t take that as an indication that little Ethiopia is no more. A liquor license just posted at 1909 9th Street, NW down the street says:

“New Tavern offering quick-service Ethiopian foods. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to provide live entertainment. Total Occupancy Load of 125 with seating for 125.”

Last Dance at Town from Ben Carver on Vimeo.

From Benjamin Carver:

“Town danceboutique closed its doors after 10 years as a hub for the Washington DC LGBT community. More than a place to dance, it was a social and event space for expansive community interests, a refuge where gay people embraced and developed their identities and a laboratory for creative expression. It is where we came out, had our first kiss, lamented our heartbreaks, celebrated our successes, and felt less alone, all under the disco ball. (more…)

1316 9th Street, NW (formerly Thally)

From a press release:

“The Feast day of San Lorenzo – typically celebrated on August 10 – is a grand celebration of food and wine in Florence, Italy, and quite frankly… a great reason for all of Italy to throw a party!

As we stated upon opening, San Lorenzo Ristorante + Bar is named after Chef Massimo Fabbri’s favorite neighborhood in Florence – Borgo San Lorenzo, as well as his 4 year old son, who in turn is named for San (or Saint) Lorenzo, the patron saint of chefs. The martyr took on this mantle when, as he was burning to death on a grill as punishment for disobeying orders and giving away the treasures of the church to the poor, he joked, “Turn me over, I’m done on this side!”

So… Massimo has decided to continue the tradition and will throw his First Annual FESTA DI SAN LORENZO on Sunday, August 12th with a special Celebratory Three Course $55 Prix-Fixe Menu.

Reservations can be made here.

“Woke up to gun shots at 3:15 am. They had the whole 900 block of T St NW and intersection closed off.”

Another reported:

“Multiple gunshots ( felt like 5+to me by the time I woke up l) at 3-00 -3:30 ish this morning at 9th and T Nw. The intersection was blocked off with crime tape and lots of police resources deployed. Really curious what happened…in the past two months It feels like we’ve seen so much activity in this area.”

Updates when/if more is known.
