From a press release:

“WHAT: Hello, Toli Moli! A Burmese Dessert Pop-Up
WHERE: EatsPlace, 3607 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. 20010
WHEN: January 30, 2016, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
COST: Free Entry, $7-9 per serving

On Saturday, January 30, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Jocelyn Law-Yone and her daughter, Simone Jacobson, will introduce Toli Moli, their unique Burmese dessert concept, at the food incubator and restaurant accelerator EatsPlace.

During this one-time special event and company launch, Washingtonians will be the first to taste Toli Moli’s three distinct flavors of falooda, a layered dessert drink popular throughout Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Drawing inspiration from the many variations of this beloved street snack, Toli Moli’s novelty faloodas are stacked with superfoods and use primarily natural ingredients. After a year of experimenting to create her own falooda with the best possible ingredients, Chef JoJo (Law-Yone) will debut a limited menu at the Toli Moli launch, including mango, coffee and pomegranate flavors of falooda “shakes”, reminiscent of the sweetest bites of her childhood in Burma. ANC Commissioner Vann-Di M. Galloway reported on the Petworth Listserv earlier this morning:

“A shooting victim was discovered on the 800 block of Quincy St NW this morning. The only details I have to share are that the victim was shot downtown near M Street NW which is closed from 19th to 18th streets. 18th Street is closed from K to M streets [ed. note: since reopened]. The victim fled the scene and was discovered in Petworth.”

Subsequently Ward 4 Council Member Todd reported:

“…the victim had non-life threatening injuries.”

Updates when the full police report is released.

“Dear PoPville,

I need to give MPD props for an arrest made over the weekend for my break-in that you folks reported on a few months ago:

“Yesterday, just before 12:30 PM, thieves kicked in our front door. Luckily our alarm went off quickly, scaring them off before they took too much and alerting us and MPD quickly. Our family and pets are ok, but they made off with some laptops and one of our cars (keys were on the kitchen counter…) – I love that little car.”

During the investigation, police found a finger print which lead them to issuing an arrest warrant early in December and an arrest over the weekend. I got a call on Monday from the Detective working our case and am looking forward to hearing from the US Attorney this week.

According to the Detective, this particular criminal has been involved in about 10 different break-ins around the neighborhood. He’s currently being held at DC jail on a half-dozen burglary charges and will spend New Years as a guest of the DC justice system.

Well done to the responding officers, our detectives who investigated the case, and ESPECIALLY the officer who took the prints!”

A reader reports: “Finally some action at the lot across from looking glass at Georgia and Princeton!”

This is the former Mario’s Pizza House and more recently the Lion’s Den Jamaican Restaurant.

Bonstra’s website says:

“3619 Georgia Avenue, NW is a six-story, 27 unit condominium structure with ground floor retail. The project provides many opportunities to explore the larger urban goals for the up-and-coming Petworth neighborhood while advancing the revitalization of Georgia Avenue’s main retail thoroughfare . The project takes advantage of the multimodal transportation within the immediate vicinity of the site and the pedestrian friendly streetscape. This design is a fresh approach to building in Petworth – a beacon, recognizable from a distance, showcasing a unique design rising above the trees and traffic of Georgia Avenue.”

So much sadness – thanks to a commenter for posting more info about the 17 Year old stabbed to death at 8th and Upshur St, NW Sunday around 5:30pm.

There is a GoFundMe page for the family that simply and powerfully says:

“Jose Alexander Ochoa Unfortunately Passed Away On
December 20 , 2015 Because He Was Stabbed While Walking To His Girlfriend House.”

The Washington Post reported:

“Ochoa, a senior at Paul International High School, a charter school, had planned to go to college; he would have been the first in his family to do so.

Now, the family who just days ago was trying to figure out how to send Ochoa to college is struggling to find money for his funeral. They’ve put up donation boxes in local stores. They want to bury him in the District, but Maryland is less expensive.”
