11th and E Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

So we all know the Hotel Harrington has been closed for some time, but today I walked by and noticed some lamps on in the rooms above the former lobby. And then I noticed someone vacuuming and cleaning one of the spaces. Any idea what is going on there? The rest of the building is definitely abandoned and cleaned out, so it was perplexing.

There was definitely someone there again today…

I saw a woman who opened the window and threw birdseed or something out onto the roof. I’m hoping it’s a legit situation though the person is definitely not hiding the fact that she’s there.

Looking forward to hearing anything. It’s such a great location and I’m curious when it will be snapped up. I have this dream of winning the lottery and turning it into a shiny new version of itself.”

“Dear PoPville,

We just installed a little free puzzle library in front of our home yesterday, and would love to let folks know. It is at 3617 Fessenden St NW (between Connecticut and Nebraska Ave NW).

“Dear PoPville,

Do you know what the scoop is on the fate of the Rock Creek Tennis Center? I was playing there and learned that the management contract expired on Saturday 2/28 with no new contract in sight. This means that as of Sunday, March 1, all classes and clinics are canceled; coaches and contractors lose their jobs; and court access is suspended. At least that’s what the staff told me. They know nothing about what happens next. Do you?”

“Dear PoPville,

This is a longshot, but I thought worth a try. My wife lost her wedding band sometime during her train ride (Amtrak regional #107, approximately 10 pm arrival at Union Station) and the Uber ride home. She went back to the train the night she lost it (big round of applause to the lovely Amtrak staff who very kindly helped her look) and looked through the entire car she was in and the path she took out of the station. No luck with lost and found or the Uber either, (more…)
