On November 26th we noted that things were not looking good for BestWorld staying open. A few new details have trickled in since then. First WaPo’s Aaron Wiener posted:
“BestWorld supermarket was set to be evicted this Wednesday for nonpayment of rent.
BUT a judge just remanded the case back to the magistrate judge, so the case is ongoing and BestWorld is NOT facing eviction Wednesday.
The court previously ordered BestWorld to pay $1.175 million to its landlord or be evicted.
BestWorld’s lawyer argued that the figure was too high, citing a disagreement over the lease terms.”
A reader sends in a fundraiser and notes:
“Good to hear, but it still looks like the handwriting is on the wall.”
The Fundraiser says:
“On Nov 23rd, BestWorld owners sadly let employees know they would be closing their doors on December 11th after a 27% rent increase from the landlords. With little notice, these 8 community members will be out of a job, after many have worked for BestWorld for more than a decade. (more…)
