Update from MPD:

“The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured two women early Sunday in Northwest.

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, at approximately 3:25 a.m., First District officers responded to report of a shooting in the 600 block of H Street, Northwest. Officers arrived and found evidence of a shooting, but no shooting victims. A short time later, two adult females arrived at an area hospital suffering gunshot wounds sustained in this incident. Both women were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“On May 5, 2025, the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration’s (ABCA) Enforcement Division, accompanied by Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers, implemented Closure Orders to the owners of Bouquet Labs DC located at 1110 Okie Street NE, Washington DC.

The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis (ABC) Board issued the Closure Orders in response to the business presenting an imminent danger to public health and safety.

Compass Rose as you’ve known it for 11 years is going to close on T street at the end of this month. June 1 will be its last day of service. It’s been a hell of a ride but it’s time for Compass, the nomad that she is, to move West. Compass Rose will take a little summer vacation with plans to open back up in a few months in the space, but as something very different that we hope still serves our neighborhood well. “Dear PoPville,

I’ve been meaning to reach out about the unique acts of kindness l regularly see from the Doubles staff. Doubles is an important community hub, and many of us rely on it as a place to work and socialize. Many others rely on it as a place for basic needs like restroom use, a place to get free pastries and water, a phone to use, or a place to warm up or cool down.

I can’t think of many businesses that even let non-paying customers use their restrooms, and the Doubles baristas are often called upon to do much more. I have regularly seen this staff step up and do everything from de-escalation, to giving of their own resources to help out an unhoused community member, to administering narcan in an emergency. All while running a very good and very busy coffee shop that often has many as 100 seated customers alone. (more…)

“The Metropolitan Police Department announces two arrests in an armed carjacking that occurred in the Navy Yard area.

On Friday, May 9, 2025, at approximately 12:08 p.m., the suspects approached the victim, who was exiting their car, in the 1200 block of 4th Street, Southeast. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s car keys. After obtaining the victim’s keys, the suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. (more…)
