pearl street

From an email:

“I’m reaching out to share exciting new details on Pearl Street Warehouse, the live music venue from the owners of Cantina Marina coming to The Wharf this fall. The Stone Pony of DC, Pearl Street Warehouse will anchor The Wharf’s new entertainment street (Pearl Street) and is the only venue of its kind in DC to offer live music every night of the week.

It’s filling a void in our music scene with live music from genres ranging from Americana, Rock, Country, Blues, Roots, Bluegrass and Alt-Country. To bring it to life, here’s a playlist we created to give you a sense of the type of music that has inspired the venue, and what you’ll come to find at Pearl Street Warehouse.

The venue holds 300 people and the mezzanine is only 25-feet from the stage, so every guest in the house will be treated to an intimate, front-row music experience. Pearl Street Warehouse will be more than a concert venue – it will have a full bar featuring diner-style comfort food, and will be the ideal neighborhood spot to pop in for a coffee or grab an after dinner drink and a live show.”

Phase 1 is scheduled to open in October 2017. The groundbreaking for Phase 2 will take place in mid-2018, with an expected completion date in 2021.

“It is extraordinarily exciting to be able to announce the team we have selected to design Phase 2 of The Wharf,” said Shawn Seaman, AIA, Principal and Senior Vice President of Development of PN Hoffman. “We have selected a diverse group of locally, nationally, and internationally renowned designers, knowing they will bring their talent and expertise to The Wharf, building a waterfront neighborhood that is an integral part of the city.”

“As with everything connected to The Wharf, the architectural design team chosen for Phase 2 reflects our ongoing efforts to achieve excellence while creating a dynamic, authentic, and compelling community,” said Peter Cole, Managing Director of Madison Marquette.

District-headquartered Perkins Eastman DC, the master planner and master architect of The Wharf will continue this guiding role for Phase 2, channeling the collective vision to ensure that The Wharf is a beloved waterfront neighborhood for generations to come. Well this is pretty cool. From a press release:

“Officials from Hoffman-Madison Waterfront (HMW), developer of The Wharf, the $2 billion, mile-long neighborhood located on DC’s Southwest waterfront, introduced DC’s first office building to be built on a pier. With Pier 4’s delivery in 2017, The Wharf continues to activate Washington, DC’s waterfront in ways that had been previously unimagined. Extending 260 feet into the Potomac River, Pier 4 will offer tenants panoramic views of the Washington Channel and nearly the entire length of a bustling Wharf Street.

“There simply will be no other office building anywhere in the country that will offer the views, amenities, design features and architectural distinction of the Wharf,” said Amer Hammour, Chairman of Madison Marquette. “In many ways, Pier 4 is a landmark of this transformative project, overlooking the Potomac River in the middle of one of the largest urban redevelopment programs in Washington’s history‎.” (more…)

Speaking of awesome light displays – from an email:

“The Wharf is starting the season off right with DC’s 25th Annual Parade of Lights.

The Wharf will host more than 60 boats covered in hundreds of thousands of lights. In addition to the boats in the parade, there will be around 40 docked boats decorated between Gang Plank Marina and the Capital Yacht Club on Saturday, December 3.

Parade of Lights is a free event, perfect to get into the Holiday spirit. This grand DC holiday tradition will feature festive light displays from the Potomac River as well as Wharf-side activities, including photos with Santa, the lighting of the Gangplank Marina Christmas Tree, a roaring bonfire, gingerbread cookie making, hot chocolate sipping, balloon art and sailboat crafting—plus the first guaranteed snowfall of the season.

There will also be a holiday brews in the Corona Beer Garden and food from King Ribs. This is a unique display of holiday lights that attracts thousands and brings a touch of magic to the City’s waterfront.”

trees

“Dear PoPville,

I live in Southwest on I St, near the waterfront metro. This morning, on the way to work, I found one of the older trees was cut down. When I got back, another tree was almost entirely down. (see attached photos)

Neither of these trees appeared unhealthy, and they were by two completely different residential buildings owned by different organizations. Who is doing this? And why?

I understand the common use of trimming to protect the power lines, but these seemed way more than that.”
