masseria union market
1340 4th Street, NE

Great news for Masseria fans and/orSW Waterfront residents from the Washington Post:

“The chef is still working out the details, but he expects the first floor to include a butcher shop, cheese counter and bakery where patrons will be able to buy fresh pasta and other prepared foods such as ragu. The second floor will house an 80-seat trattoria, an Italian eatery that focuses on the country’s southern cuisine and features an a la carte menu of pasta, antipasti, meats and cheeses. The third floor will include a rooftop bar and private dining space for up to 80 people.”

Stay tuned for Spring 2018.

From a press release:

“High Street Residential, the residential subsidiary of Trammell Crow Company, and CSG Urban Partners, have partnered with Meadow Partners to redevelop the St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church site. The Class A mixed-use project, located at 222 M Street, SW in Washington DC, will comprise 221 multifamily units along with a new 16,000-square-foot St. Matthew’s Church and community center.

The project is the latest development to break ground in the SW Waterfront submarket of Washington, DC and affords convenient access to the Waterfront-SEU Metro station and will be a few blocks from The Wharf development.

“The redevelopment of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is an important project for us,” said Josh Dix, Principal with Trammell Crow Company and National Residential Practice Leader for High Street Residential. “The delivery of this project will build on the positive momentum of the Southwest submarket. We are excited about the opportunity to bring the Church and a new community center back to its original congregation in Southwest, Washington, DC.”

St. Matthew’s will be highly-amenitized, featuring a large first floor lounge overlooking a one-third-acre courtyard, a dog run, a fitness center with private rooms for yoga and spin classes, bike storage and maintenance room. The project will also include a roof-top pool, lounge and deck, with unobstructed views of the U.S. Capitol Building. The new St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and community center will feature a coffee shop, a large fellowship hall for community meetings and gatherings, Wi-Fi and computer access for the community, a large multi-use worship space capable of hosting small theater and performance events and a gallery design to feature local artists. SW Waterfront

From a press release:

“The following is an updated list of restaurant and retail offerings coming to The Wharf in 2017, as part of the development’s Phase I grand opening:

Social Restaurant Group’s 9,800-square-foot concept La Vie, their largest venture to-date, will feature French-Mediterranean cuisine that includes an extensive moules-frites menu, a wide selection of sweet and savory tartines and a variety of coastal-inspired beverages. Situated along The Wharf’s most expansive and stunning vistas, their space boasts a 1,100-square-foot waterfront terrace, and serves the resident pool deck above. La Vie also includes private access to a 5,000-square-foot rooftop terrace, poised to be Washington’s premier events space.

District Hardware and Bike, the nearly 50-year old family-owned hardware store, full-service bike shop and now café and water sport retailer, is expanding from its current location in Foggy Bottom. Their new 6,300-square-foot location will be designed by Natalie Park Design Studio and is the latest in a series of expansions for the store, which has been owned and run by the Conway family for three generations. To strengthen the concept, District Hardware and Bike has teamed up with local coffee roaster, Vigilante Coffee, to help design and launch the new café and coffee bar.

Cordial Craft Wine, Beer & Spirits by Eric Rohleder is expanding from its current operation in Union Market. His 525-square-foot location at The Wharf will feature a water view and products from independent importers and boutique distributors across the globe.

America’s largest pharmacy retailer CVS will occupy a 9,000-square-foot space at The Wharf.

Earlier this year, The Wharf announced the first round of restaurant concepts: (more…)

From the Mayor’s office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser was joined by D.C. United, Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, the Director of the Department of General Services and other District officials for an infrastructure groundbreaking in preparation for the new soccer stadium at Buzzard Point, in Ward 6.

“Buzzard Point’s future is bright, and this soccer stadium will make it that much brighter,” said Mayor Bowser. “Today’s demolition represents the first step toward revitalizing an overlooked area of the District that will spur economic activity on the banks of the Anacostia, hire residents for good paying jobs, and give more Washingtonians a fair shot. We are proud of our hometown soccer team, and we are now one step closer to having a new home for D.C. United.”

The $300 million state-of-the-art facility is a public-private partnership that will create nearly 900 job opportunities for District residents, and strengthen the city’s commitment to community and fan engagement. Training, apprenticeships, and workforce development opportunities will be provided to connect neighborhood residents to jobs stemming from this project. (more…)
