“My husband and I (also residents of Edgewood) have a start-up stromboli business called STUFF’t and are taking over the kitchen at The Dew Drop Saturday from 3:00 p.m to close.

A little about STUFF’t: We are a new, local start-up based out ofMess Hall in Edgewood. Our goal is to provide a modern and delicious take on the traditional Italian stromboli. Our ‘strombolis’ are made with homemade pizza dough, ‘stuff’t’ with a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables and baked to crispy perfection. We are very excited to feature 4 varieties at the Dew Drop Inn: pepperoni & cheese; fresh & sundried tomatoes, basil and cheese; meatloaf & mashed potatoes; and chicken & waffles. ”

A reader reported earlier from the scene in:

“Brookland/Edgewood – Franklin Street between 7th and 10th St, NE. It is a disaster. Can’t pass through 30 + officers blocking.

Helicopters and at least 25 cop cars, probably around 40 officers and k9s on the bridge on Franklin between 10th and 7th street. Can’t cross the bridge/walking or driving. All traffic having to divert. I had to bike a completely different way home.

They were looking down toward the NoMa side of the bridge ..not so much toward the Brookland metro side. Not sure if someone was on the tracks or something?”

From MPD:

“The First Police District and the United States Park Police were investigating an Armed Robbery which occurred today at approximately 4 PM in the area of 14th and K Streets, NW. During the course of that investigation, First Police District Detectives were able to gather information about a suspect vehicle that was used by the suspect to make good his escape. That vehicles description was broadcast over all police radio frequencies for units in the field to stop, hold all occupants and notify the First District Detectives Office when located. Additional information was gathered that led our Detectives to an address on Franklin Street, NE where the suspect vehicle was in fact located.

The assistance of the MPD Special Operations Division’s Helicopter Branch and K-9 Corps were instrumental in assisting uniformed patrol units and detectives in securing the scene. Three persons of interest were taken into custody and the suspect vehicle was removed from the scene pending a search warrant. The case is currently being investigated and handled by Detectives of the United States Park Police with the assistance from Detectives from the First Police District.

The First Police District would like to thank Captain Lanciano and all members of the Fifth Police District that supported our efforts in recovering this wanted vehicle and taking these suspects into custody without incident.”

From the Pleasant Plains Workshop:

After 5 amazing years at our Georgia Avenue location, we will be consolidating our gallery and studio spaces at our workshop space in Brookland (703 Edgewood St NE #2). The Brookland space is where we’ve been working on our own artwork and teaching printmaking classes for a couple of years. We’ve decided to bring the gallery/shop over in an effort to focus on art making and streamline our business model. We’re pleased be joining the arts landscape that already exists here which includes Dance Place, The Monroe Arts Walk, and the Artspace Lofts. We’re also located above the new food incubator Mess Hall, around the corner from the new Dew Drop Inn, and conveniently situated between Brookland and Rhode Island Ave Metro Stations.

After Labor Day, we’ll have Saturday hours at our Brookland Space, with a focus on exhibiting and selling prints. We’ll also be continuing to teach screen printing and other classes by appointment, and offering additional artistic services (stay tuned!).

We cherish the time we’ve spent as a part of the Georgia Avenue Community, and the relationships we formed there are everlasting. We will continue to work with Georgia Avenue businesses on our annual temporary arts project, the Georgia Avenue Window Walk, and will host pop-up events (caroling!) along the corridor. Our roots on Georgia Avenue are deep, and the Pleasant Plains name follows us to Brookland…

Be on the lookout for another update in early Fall as we set up our new hours, classes, and exhibition schedule. We look forward to seeing you at our new space soon!”
