“By far the best breakfast sandwich in DC. Not even close. I can’t get over how good these are. Wam homemade pastrami, a farm fresh egg perfectly cooked, a nice slice of cheese, on a lightly toasted and buttered roll with a pinch of salt. It may take five or ten minutes but 100% worth the wait. #pastrami #egg #cheese”

In response to a large police presence in Mount Pleasant Friday night, MPD responded:

“an MPD unit assigned to the area observed two rival gangs at the location. One of the gang members was surrounded by several members of the rival gang and the officer, believing that a fight was about to take place, requested additional units to respond to the location. No fight ever took place and the gang members were identified and sent on their way. No arrests were made during the incident. During the stop, several residents took out their cell phones and began recording the incident while shouting statements like “Leave the immigrants alone” and “Please don’t take them away”. Last week, ICE conducted at least three raids in Northwest DC, including an apartment raid in Mt. 1627 Monroe Street, after and before. Credits (after): Photo taken at ANC meeting, (before) from propertyquest.dc.gov

At its regular monthly meeting on June 26, Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1D/Mount Pleasant voted unanimously to support a homeowner who does not want to rip out newly-installed front windows to comply with historic preservation requirements.

The owner of 1627 Monroe Street NW asked the ANC for support after the staff of DC’s historic preservation authorities recentlyrecommended against giving the homeowner retroactive approval for his windows. The matter is now on the agenda of the next meeting of DC’s Historic Preservation Review Board(HPRB), scheduled for today (June 28). The HPRB has jurisdiction over this matter because the house is in the Mount Pleasant Historic District.

The problem is that the new window is twice as wide as the window that was there before (see photo above). In other respects, it is quite similar. (more…)
