Falafel Maestro signage has been posted in the windows at 1204 H St, NE in the Philadelphia Water Ice building. It’ll be interesting to see if they can compete with Shawafel located a block away at 1322 H St, NE.

Some potential super sweet scuttlebutt for ya to round out the year. Another really good source tells me that Honey Pig Korean BBQ is looking to take over around 4000 square feet near 4th and H St, NE. Their website says:
My husband and I began Honey Pig in 2008 with our son in mind. We wanted to create a restaurant that would offer affordable, quality food for people from all different walks of life. Today, we are happy to say that Honey Pig is known for just that–a fun, vibrant mixing bowl of all ages and cultures, coming together to enjoy the finest Korean BBQ at the lowest prices in town!
You can see their menu here.
They currently have three locations in Ellicott City, MD; Centreville, VA; and Annandale, VA.
Still just rumor at this point for H Street but could be pretty cool.
Anyone every try one of those spots?

I’m hearing from a very good source that Chopt, Chipotle, Boloco, and Potbellys are all trying to get one of the new retail spaces for the new building on H Street, NE between 3rd and 4th (where the new Giant grocery store is also coming.) Out of the four above which would you most like to see?

From MPD:
“We are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 900 block of H Street NE. It was an assault with intent to rob. Sneakers were involved. No injuries.”
More info when it becomes available.
More from MPD:
We have a general description of three black male suspects. Customers were waiting in front of Downtown Locker Room for it to open so they could purchase a new type of sneaker. The suspects approached the customers who were waiting in line and attempted to rob them. The robbery escalated and one suspect fired several shots. Nobody was struck. The suspects then fled. We have a general description of a white Dodge Charge style vehicle with tinted windows that fled north on 9th Street.
Our theory is that the suspects assumed those waiting had a decent amount of cash on them in order to purchase the new shoes.
From MPD:
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating an undetermined death which occurred in the 200 block of I Street, NE.
On Monday, December 17, 2012, at approximately 3:28 pm, members of the Metropolitan Police Department First District responded to the report of an unconscious person inside of an apartment in the 200 block of I Street, NE. Upon their arrival, members located an adult male who was unconscious and not breathing, lying on the floor. Members of the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined that there were no signs consistent with life.
The decedent in this case has been identified as 37-year-old Joey Edward Belcher of Northeast, DC.
An investigator from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia responded to the scene and transported the remains of the decedent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia, pending an autopsy.
The Hill is Home reports:
“Joey was a partner in Sticky Rice and Dangerously Delicious Pies, in addition to the Chupacabra and Peanut Butter Jelly Time food trucks.”
There is a heartbreaking note on the Sticky Rice DC Facebook page:
To those of you suffering this incomprehensible loss with me, Joey Belcher was simply an awesome guy. He was kind, sympathetic, endlessly generous, weird and funny, and he loved everyone of you. More than my colleague, my friend and my roommate, he had come to be my brother and there are no words for how much I will miss that mischievous grin. He was home and he was a huge part of my life and to carry on without him seems unimaginable right now. However, while it is hopelessly cliche, Joey is the last person in the world who would have us standing around sobbing. So, carry on we shall.
