I’ve been getting tons of inquiries asking for updates on the coming Columbia Heights Wawa. I’m told that building permits have finally been issued and “hard construction” begins after the holidays. If all goes according to plan they should be open by May 1st.

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect in connection with a Second Degree Sexual Abuse offense that occurred on Saturday, December 1, 2018, in the 1200 block of 33rd Street, Northwest.
At approximately 12:02 am, the victim was receiving a ride in the suspect’s rideshare vehicle. During the ride, the suspect engaged in sexual contact without the victim’s permission.
The suspect is described as a White male, and was last seen driving a black SUV vehicle.
Anyone who can identify this individual or who has knowledge of these incidents should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.”

Thanks to all who emailed about the Georgetown Wawa coming soon signage after seeing this morning’s post on the one coming to Adams Morgan. Georgetown looks to be opening any day now. The takeover is real. Wawa opened their first D.C. location on 19th Street way back on December 14th 2017. Blessed be his name. Stay tuned for an exact opening date as soon as we know it.
Ed. Note: Progress seems to be slow going for the Columbia Heights Wawa but updates when we learn more about the timing their too.

“This November, The Berliner (3401 Water Street NW), a new scratch-made wurst and beer garden opens near the Georgetown waterfront in the space formerly occupied by neighborhood mainstay Malmaison. The Berliner is the latest concept from D.C.-based The Popal Group, the family-run restaurant group behind Cafe Bonaparte, Lapis Bistro (a recent Bib Gourmand honoree), Lapop, and the former Napoleon Bistro.
Inspired by family ties and modern Berlin comfort food, the menu includes Bavarian classics such as bratwurst, schnitzel and homemade pretzels with beer cheese, in addition to modern fare such as doner kebabs and falafel. The Berliner will also feature 24 beers on tap with a variety of domestic, international and seasonal brews ranging from larger producers to to smaller German breweries rarely found on U.S. menus.
