“We will be opening our doors at 5pm until 12am on Sunday 11/26 and Monday 11/27. We will be closed Tuesday 11/28.

GRAND OPENING is scheduled for Wednesday 11/29.”

I took a sneak peek of the new Jackie Lee’s at 116 Kennedy Street, NW and it’s time to get excited. Given the space and the people involved I feel like this has the potential become the Red Derby/Wonderland for the neighborhood. This is a very good thing. “Around 5:30 PM today, [Thursday] MPD responded to the report for the sounds of gunshots in the 4800 block of Fort Totten Drive, NE. Officers found an adult male subject suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive his non-life threatening injury. The only lookout available at this time is a sedan occupied by (3) black male suspects. The case is being investigating by MPD detectives.

Culture Coffee opening 2nd location later this spring at Fort Totten Square!

“Good news! We have confirmed with JBG Companies that a lease has been signed for the last remaining retail space at Fort Totten Square, at the corner of Riggs and South Dakota.

Culture Coffee will be opening later this spring.

As those who were there for the very early days of this project recall, a coffee shop was one of our priorities and we are glad that has come to fruition and all the retail is complete.

RFP Released for MBT Extension to Fort Totten!

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced a Request For Proposals (RFP) for the design-build construction of the next phase of the Metropolitan Branch Trail. The Fort Totten section of the Metropolitan Branch Trail will connect from where it currently ends on John McCormack Drive in Brookland, to the Fort Totten Metro Station.

“This is the next major milestone in the District’s commitment to completing the construction of the Metropolitan Branch Trail,” said Leif Dormsjo, DDOT Director. “A design-build approach will help us engage the creativity of the construction community to bring their ideas to the final design and construction.”

The Metropolitan Branch Trail is an 8-mile multi-use trail that connects Union Station in the District of Columbia to Silver Spring Maryland. The new trail will provide a direct off-street route for bicyclists and pedestrians through the Fort Totten area.

The trail will include LED lighting, security cameras, and wayfinding signage. (more…)
