“Mecho’s Dominican Kitchen opened yesterday, Sunday afternoon.

Within 45 minutes it was standing room only inside with air conditioning. Thankfully there were seats and tables outside.

I was one of the first customers in 1995 when Los Hermanos opened up in Columbia Heights on Park Road and 14th Street, NW.

And I was the very first customer with their second restaurant, Mecho’s Dominican Kitchen opened Sunday at 2450 Market Street, N.E., in the Shops at Dakota Crossing across from Costco.

What I love about these eateries is that it’s not fast food, quite the opposite in fact: (more…)

“On 8/7/2019, at approximately 4:15 AM, members of the Fifth District responded to the area of the 3600 block of Hansberry Court, NE, for multiple calls for the sounds of gunshots. The response included multiple Fifth District Units, Canine Officers and a helicopter. Members were able to locate several items of evidence, but did not locate any victims. Unfortunately, we do not have any further information at this time.

Thank you to all of the citizens and neighbors who called 911 and pointed us in the right direction. We appreciate your help!”

“Chick-fil-A has selected Jessie Chesson as the local franchise owner of the chain’s Fort Lincoln restaurant as hiring of up to 100 new Team Members is under way in preparation for the projected May grand opening.

When Chesson’s stand-alone Chick-fil-A opens at 2410 Market St. NE in Dakota Crossing, it will be the latest step in her career as a Chick-fil-A franchise owner which began when she opened the chain’s location at 3100 14th St. NW in November 2015. “After our home inspection today I’m FREAKING OUT.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m in escrow on a house in Fort Lincoln area and to be fair, we put in the offer after my husband saw the place and I was making the offer site-unseen. After our home inspection today I’m FREAKING OUT. I can’t get a good feel for the neighborhood. Some houses had bars on windows, there was a shady character on one street, and then $500k homes on the next.

Could you post soliciting folks in the neighborhood for feedback? We have to make a decision by Wednesday! Wondering about safety, grocery stores, and general feel for the neighborhood.

Uh, Is There A Food Safety Inspector in the House?

“Dear PoPville,

Heads up for anyone headed CostCo in NE… they’ve cleared out most of the meat due to the heat and anything still available is ‘insulated’ under cardboard. Other open refrigerated sections are shielded with pull-down shades. Pretty wild ahead of the holiday. This was around 6:30pm Monday night.”
