“Coffee Nature is a local coffee shop in Tenleytown/Friendship Heights. It’s owned by Joseph Oh and his family, and is truly a staple of the community. Joseph’s dream when moving to America was to start his own business, and he has certainly succeeded — transforming this space into a home away from home for many customers, with (pre-COVID) open mic nights, art displays, and seriously impressive latte art (and coffee quality!).

Like many local businesses, Coffee Nature has struggled due to Covid, and Joseph is now far behind on rent for the shop and barely able to cover his home mortgage. Coffee Nature has had to close, and employees have been let go. A concerned customer created a GoFundMe. for neighbors to help support the shop during this time. (more…)

“In partnership with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, the DC Office of Planning (OP) has engaged the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Washington to examine the future of Friendship Heights with a Technical Assistance Panel (TAP).  The TAP will be a key step in exploring opportunities for advancing transformative and equitable redevelopment in Friendship Heights, as outlined in Mayor Bowser’s proposed Comprehensive Plan update.

The TAP will examine Friendship Heights, once a leading regional destination for luxury retail which has experienced a major disruption in its market position, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. (more…)

First the World Market closed inside the Bed Bath and Beyond in Chinatown and soon it’ll be farewell in Friendship Heights.

Did I need box of herring fillets, a 6 pack of Tsingtao beer, a king tut mini snow globe and zebra travel umbrella? No, no I did not*. Did I buy them because they were on sale? Yes. Yes I did.
