Thanks to a reader for sending: “ran by the Brooks Brothers store on Connecticut in Dupont, and appears that a number of “Retail space available” signs went up over the weekend. Website confirms the location is now closed permanently. Between this and the Georgetown location closure, may be the death knell for Brooks Brothers in DC.” (more…)

Update from MPD:
“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2020, in the 5200 block of Western Avenue, Northwest.
At approximately 7:39 pm, members of the Second District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. And thanks to Renee for passing on more bleak news in Friendship Heights from the Washington Business Journal, “Mazza Gallerie mall in Northwest D.C. faces a foreclosure sale”
Mazza Gallerie’s (5300 Wisconsin Avenue, NW) website says: “Since 1978 Mazza Gallerie has served as DC’s choice for upscale retail and entertainment. Boasting 3 levels of shops and eateries and a full level movie theatre, Mazza Gallerie is a premiere destination for fun and shopping.”
Updates when we learn what happens with the foreclosure.

“Update vehicle into building 4900 block Wisconsin Ave NW. Vehicle went into dining area of restaurant. Driver was evaluated & declined transport to hospital. No other injuries. Damage to structure is primarily cosmetic. DCRA building inspector requested.” (more…)

Not a great parking job, but it’s okay. Because if you look closely at the rear window, there is a homemade sign that reads “NEW DRIVER.” We were thinking that there should probably also be one that states “NEW PARKER.”

“We hate to have to write this, but we need to let the Civil Lounge family know, that this Thursday, September 26, 2019 will be the final night of service at Civil Cigar Lounge. Over the last 7 years we have had the pleasure of creating one of the best cigar lounges for our guests. We have had some exceptional staff, that provided good, comfortable service to a growing clientele both new-comers and regulars. We will truly miss that interaction.
The Chevy Chase Pavilion had chosen to go in a different direction after losing other service and retail tenants over the last two years. We fought to stay as long as we could, using all legal means at our disposal, but our final hearing didn’t go our way. So we are at the end of this particular road.
We are exploring new opportunities to bring Civil back within the District of Columbia. (more…)
