“Gunshots in the first block of Q st NE last night”

A reader reports:

“Not sure if anyone has reported this yet but there were 5-6 gunshots in the first block (0-100) of Q street NE last night just after 11 pm. Right after the shots you could hear tires screeching. A lot of neighbors came out and at least 3 cop cars and cops on bicycles were on the street within a few minutes talking to neighbors. Luckily it seemed like no one was injured.”

Back in December Eckington was gutted to learn that the super popular Yang Market would be closing after two years.

Police Release Video of 9pm Shots Fired in Eckington Monday Night

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District seek the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) offense that occurred on Monday, February 18, 2019, in the 1700 block of Lincoln Road, Northeast.

At approximately 8:53 pm, the suspect fired a handgun, towards the victim, at the listed location. The suspect then fled the scene. There were no reported injuries during this offense. (more…)

About that Helicopter Last Night

I got lots of reports of a helicopter circling last night and it sounds like there may have been two incidents. Regarding the one around Mount Vernon Square/Triangle it appears related to a “critical missing person” report:

“The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating endangered 22-year-old Aaron Weatherly, who was last seen walking northbound in the 700 block of 5th St, NW on Monday, February 18, 2019.

Aaron Weatherly is described as a black male, with medium brown complexion, 5’1″ in height, 165 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair with a fade. He was last seen wearing a black coat, black pants, a green polo shirt and brown boots in front of 715 7th St NW. He may be in need of medication, has a mindset of a 2-yr old.

MPD is asking that if you have any information about the whereabouts of Aaron Weatherly to please call 202.727.9099.”

Another reader responded to the queries with:

“Not likely related but ANOTHER Eckington shooting, 8:55 pm, 1700 Lincoln, choppers circling here for an hour afterward.”

Ed. Note: I have not found any police reports about that shooting so perhaps it was shots fired (nobody hit). Though I did find a report about a shooting around 12:30pm on Lincoln earlier in the day:

“Shooting in the 1600 block of Lincoln Road NE. Lookout for B/M, dark complexion, gray coat with black hood, armed with a black semiautomatic handgun. L/S E/B on Q street NE”

Shooting around 4pm in Eckington

A reader reports just after 4pm:

“there was just a shooting in Eckington on Eckington Place, north of FedEx and just south of Qualia Coffee. A guy was shooting from the northwest corner of Eckington Pl and Q St NE and I saw a kid go down and stay down. Probably 6 or 7 shots. Obviously traffic around Dave Thomas Circle is a no-go.”

MPD reported:

“Alert: Shooting, 1551 hours, 1500 blk Eckington Pl NE, Lookout for a B/M, 5’11, black sweat shirt, grey sweat pants, black shoes L/S W/B on Harry Thomas Way NE”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday February 15, 2019, in the 100 block of Harry Thomas Way, Northeast. (more…)

Shots Fired Reported in Navy Yard Sunday Night; Stabbing in Eckington Early Monday Morning

“First District units are currently investigating calls for sounds of gunshots around the area of 20 N street and also Half and L street SE…Anyone with information relating to these sounds, or any other criminal event that has occurred please call 202-727-9099 or contact me directly at [email protected]…”

“The Fifth District is investigating an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife) that occurred on Monday, February 4, 2019 in the Unit block of Florida Avenue, NE.

An adult male victim was found at the location suffering from multiple stab wounds to the body. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

About that Big Police Presence Last Night – Bloomingdale/Eckington edition

I received a lot of messages this morning along the lines of:

“a car going the wrong direction crashed followed by some weird police activity on quincy place nw around 4am this morning….any intel”

MPD tells me that it was in response to a car jacked vehicle suspect spotted in the unit block of Quincy Place, NW. The actual car jacking occurred in the alley of the 100 block of Q St. NE. The suspect was identified and placed under arrest in the 100 block of Harry Thomas Way NE.

Ed. Note: I got other inquires about helicopters in the area and was told ” MPD’s Air Support Unit did not respond to this call.”

Man Shot at in Eckington 12:50am Last Night

“On 12/28/2018, at approximately 12:50 AM, members of the Fifth District responded for the sound of gunshots in the 1900 block of 1st Street, NE. Upon arrival, officers met with an adult male complainant who stated that he had just been chased by an individual, and shot at. The complainant was not struck by the gunfire, and was able to make it to safety. (more…)

Uncle Jazz reported:

“I heard the shots. A clear 5 shots. Victim was hit across North Cap from The Pub and the People. Ambulance was on the scene quickly and the victim was conscious.”

“Earlier today Fifth District Units responded to the 1700 Blk of Lincoln Rd NE for a call for a shooting. Officers located an adult male victim in the 1600 Blk of North Capitol St NE suffering from gunshot wounds to the arm and leg. (more…)

Daytime Shots Fired in Eckington; Stabbing in Columbia Heights Monday Night

“Earlier today members of the 5th District responded to several calls for sounds of gunshots in the Unit Block of R St NE. Officers recovered 5 cartridges casings during a canvass of the area. No victims or damaged property were located. Anyone with any information regarding this matter are urged to contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or via text at 50411.”
