From the National Building Museum:

“Get lost at the Museum this summer!

The Museum, in partnership with BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, will create a never-before-seen large-scale maze for the Museum’s historic home. Soaring 18 feet high and measuring 61 feet by 61 feet, the Baltic birch plywood structure will boast a series of twists and turns for visitors to weave through and explore. The “BIG Maze” will be open July 4 to September 1, 2014.

Inspired by ancient labyrinths, garden and hedge mazes of 17th and 18th-century Europe, and modern American corn mazes, this contemporary maze will be located in the West Court of the Museum’s historic Great Hall. In addition to viewing the maze from the ground floor, visitors will also be able to get an unexpected aerial perspective from the Museum’s second- and third-floor balconies.

Bjarke Ingels said of his design: “The concept is simple: as you travel deeper into a maze, your path typically becomes more convoluted. What if we invert this scenario and create a maze that brings clarity and visual understanding upon reaching the heart of the labyrinth?” From outside, the maze’s cube-like form hides the final reveal behind its 18-foot-tall walls. On the inside, the walls slowly descend towards the center which concludes with a grand reveal—a 360 degree understanding of your path in and how to get out.”

Conveniently located in Thomas Circle at the junction of Massachusetts Avenue, Vermont Avenue, 14th Street, and M Street, NW. George Henry Thomas:

“(July 31, 1816 – March 28, 1870) was a career United States Army officer and a Union General during the American Civil War, one of the principal commanders in the Western Theater.

Thomas had a successful record in the Civil War, but he failed to achieve the historical acclaim of some of his contemporaries, such as Ulysses S. Grant and William T. Sherman. He developed a reputation as a slow, deliberate general who shunned self-promotion and who turned down advancements in position when he did not think they were justified. After the war, he did not write memoirs to advance his legacy. He also had an uncomfortable personal relationship with Grant, which served him poorly as Grant advanced in rank and eventually to the presidency.”

Yesterday many folks were dismayed to learn that Yo! Sushi had permanently closed in Union Station. Many took to twitter asking @YOSushi why? @johnsolit shares with us an interesting response:

“Yes Union Station has closed due to changes with our strategic partner. Opening in downtown DC by end of this year!”

Previously we learned another Yo! Sushi was planned for 675 H Street, NW in Chinatown but that deal fell through in Aug. 2013 and that space is now slated to become a Sports Zone Elite. I’ve inquired where in Downtown DC they are planning to open and will update as more info becomes available.

From an email:

“Have you ever looked at your cell phone case and wondered how it was made? There’s a good chance it was made from a 3D printer… The same kind of machine that can “print” a jet engine thanks to advanced manufacturing. For the next two weeks, GE is coming to town to show the District how these types of advanced manufacturing machines work. And we’d like to show you before the rest of the public gets to see it… You’ll get to engrave your iPhone or iPad and print your own phone case, if you want! There will be a lot of fun things to photograph.

Part of a global tour, each Garage is a pop-up lab that provides really neat hands-on experience with manufacturing technologies that most of us don’t have access to (e.g., laser cutters, 3D printers, injection molders, etc.). Throughout the next two weeks, Garages will be open to the public, so people can walk through the space and actually use these machines that are revolutionizing the country’s manufacturing processes.

For a closer look at a past GE Garage, please watch our video here.

The general public will be invited to visit the space and interact with the technologies starting Friday the 21st and running through April 9, 2014. Visitors will be able to engage in on-site activities, ranging from building a case for their smartphone using GE’s 3D printers to attending 101 workshops held in the space. ”

Thanks to Dan Enterline for sending:

“The plaza at CityCenter is now open, and all decked out for the Cherry Blossom Festival. (Pic taken Wednesday evening, March 20, 2014) The photo was taken from the SE corner of the plaza facing NW.”

A permit has been issued for Del Frisco Steakhouse which we first heard about back in Nov. 2012:

“PERMIT ISSUED,950 I ST NW UNIT 501,”CONSTRUCTION OF FIRST TIME TENANT IN NEW BLDG. AT CITY CENTER DC, PARCEL 5, DEL FRISCOS DOUBLE EAGLE STEAK HOUSE RESTAURANT SEATING 80 ON THE LOWER LEVEL, 89 ON 1ST FLOOR, 199 ON THE 2ND FLOOR, TOTAL SEATING 368, MAX CAPACITY 420.”

In June of 2012 Del Frisco’s Grille opened in the long vacant former Les Halles space at 1201 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.  You can see the Steakhouse menus here.

A couple of weeks ago I also posted some retail scuttlebutt about a Hermes, Gucci, D&G, Tiffany&Co as possible tenants. Here’s an update from a good source – No D&G, No Gucci but yes to a Louis Vuitton and a Paul Stuart and a Tiffany & co is still possible.

And here’s another of the new fountain at CityCenter from PoPville flickr user clif_burns:
