Yet one commissioner has used his government-paid cellphone to call such numbers at least 240 times since August 2011, according to phone records.
Lenwood O. Johnson, who represents a district in Columbia Heights, spent more than 158 hours — nearly a week — on the “D.C. Raven” and “D.C. Alibi” chat lines, in addition to making many other personal calls.

1424 Park Rd, NW
Paila Chilean Grill opened up at 1424 Park Rd, NW back in Feb. 2011. Though there were many fans they’ve recently closed and will be replaced by Mi Cuba Cafe. I’m told Mi Cuba Cafe will bring authentic Cuban food to the neighborhood in about six weeks. Stay tuned.

Back in early Aug. I asked folks what they’d like to see come to the former laundromat next to Red Derby after hearing a number of rumors. We’ve now got the answer – a bar called Lyman’s. The liquor license posted out front says it will be a:
“Tavern serving bar food with a seating capacity of 70. Occupancy load of 70. Requesting a summer garden with a seating capacity of 20 and entertainment endorsement featuring live music.”
The Washingtonian says:
The Raven Grill owner Merid Admassu is teaming up with Kevin Perone and Cafe Saint Ex’s Jessica Kleinmann on a tavern called Lyman’s at 3720 14th Street, Northwest.
There will be at least two pinball tables and a 20-seat heated patio with a retractable roof, a latticed privacy fence, and an indoor-outdoor counter so you can order drinks without having to go inside.
Updates as construction progresses. This could be an awesome addition to the neighborhood.

14th and Meridian Pl, NW
Thanks to all who’ve sent emails about the notorious horse’s ass award nominee at 14th and Meridian Pl, NW next to the Bacon Funeral Home. Let’s hope this is for real:

Thanks to all the readers who send word about the construction area outside the Z Burger at 14th and Park Rd, NW. I’ve emailed the owner to see how long they anticipate construction to last but haven’t heard back yet. Unless we have a warm winter I guess an exact opening date isn’t essential…

The DSW finally opens in DC USA (on Irving St, NW just west of 14th Street) in Columbia Heights. I’m told there will be a
“ribbon cutting at 9:30 AM on Thursday Oct 11,2012 followed by store opening at 10 AM.”

Included in this celebration will be The Edelweiss Band, a dog show, a moon bounce, face painters, several local farming vendors as well as a charity dunk tank. Additionally, Meridian Pint will host a large adults only outdoor beer garden featuring 6 German Oktoberfest beers while indoors we’ll have nearly 24 American Oktoberfest beers all paired with authentic bratwursts from our outdoor grill.
Enjoy a wonderful day of festivities up and down 11th Street while celebrating the tradition of Oktoberfest. 11th Street will be closed from Park Street to Monroe Street for this family friendly festival so be sure to come hungry and thirsty.
