Thanks to all who messaged us the news from the Washington Business Journal that a Matchbox would be taking over the former Grilled Oyster Co. space. Bummer from the Cleveland Park listserv:
“I was at Cafe Deluxe last night [Wednesday] enjoying $8 burger night when the server informed me that the restaurant will be closing in 25 days. Apparently the landlord wanted to increase the rent substantially. This is a big loss for the neighborhood in my opinion!”
Ed. Note: I’ve emailed Cafe Deluxe for more details but haven’t heard back yet. We judged them back in 2011. You can see their menu here. Updates as more is known.

“Washington National Cathedral launched its new “Let There Be Lego!” project to build a miniature, 13-foot- long scale model of the Cathedral out of 400,000 Lego bricks. Starting March 1, members of the public will be invited to “buy a brick” for $2.00, and help build up the Cathedral brick by brick, with all proceeds going toward restoration of parts of the Cathedral damaged by the 2011 earthquake.” (more…)

“There will be a candlelight vigil in Dupont Circle, Thursday evening October 25th from 7pm to 745pm, in advance of Friday’s interment of Matthew Shepard’s ashes in the National Cathedral. For twenty years, his ashes have not been laid to rest, as his parents worried that if they chose a final resting place, it would be at risk of desecration. But, on Friday, this tragic odyssey will come to an end, as there will be a final home for Matthew in a place his parents say he would love.
And so we will gather Thursday evening at 7pm at the fountain in Dupont Circle as a community to mark this occasion and stand against intolerance, hatred, and the violence that claimed Matthew’s life and continues today. (more…)
“Bully mix found at 38th and Garfield NW last night. Animal control brought her to Humane Rescue. She’s super sweet and friendly. Most likely under a year old. I called Humane Rescue this morning and they said she wasn’t chipped.”
