Following the unprecedented terrorist attack on the United States Capitol on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, and the continued threat of related violence in the District of Columbia, we are extremely concerned about the upcoming National Special Security Event (NSSE) led by the United States Secret Service. We believe strongly that the 59th Presidential Inauguration on January 20 will require a very different approach than previous inaugurations given the chaos, injury, and death experienced at the United States Capitol during the insurrection. While I will be reaching out to a broad range of local, regional, and federal partners to enhance cooperation among our bodies, I strongly urge the United States Department of Homeland Security to adjust its approach to the Inauguration in several specific ways. Ed. Note: NPR reported: “Two pipe bombs left at the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee were discovered by police and safely detonated, police said.

In a car on Capitol grounds, law enforcement found a drink cooler full of gasoline bombs and a long gun, Contee told reporters.

The FBI confirmed to NPR that the agency is involved in ongoing investigations and said, “two suspected explosive devices were rendered safe by the FBI and our law enforcement partners.”

“Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 3:47 pm First District officers responded to the 100 block of 11th Street NE for the report of a robbery. Officers located the victim who reported that 4-6 juvenile males wearing dark clothing approached him. The victim was then struck in the face and his wallet was taken. The victim was treated on scene by DCFEMS. The suspects were last seen fleeing westbound through the alley. Officers and Detectives, with further investigation, were able to identify and arrest one juvenile in connection with the robbery. (more…)
