In late Nov. we noted that District Doughnut was coming to Barracks Row in the Spring and that Capital City Subs had closed next door. On Dec. 5th Barracks Row Main St wrote:

“Hey @PoPville – Capital City Subs at 751 8th St SE didn’t close down! New owners are just remodeling the interior. Should be back open soon!”

A concerned citizen wondered “was there any follow-up and/or correction made here?”

While “be back open soon” is subjective, I was finally able to get a peek inside Saturday and they look very close now. The inside is all cleaned up making the space nearly unrecognizable. I’ll update again with photos and menu when an a reopening date is announced.

From MPD:

“Yesterday afternoon at about 3:00 PM, two PSA 107 Officers saw a subject, known to them as a package thief, standing in the 200 block of 11th St SE holding several items that appeared to be package contents. The Officers made contact with the subject and after further investigation they were able to identify the property as being stolen from the front of a home in the 1100 block of Independence Ave SE. The subject, a 47 year old male of Southeast Washington, DC, was arrested and charged with theft and the stolen items were recovered.

Last night, shortly after midnight, 1D plainclothes Officers were conducting surveillance of a suspicious person in the 600 block of 7th St NE. As a result of the Officers operations, they stopped this subject in the 700 block of H St NE, and recovered stolen property that had been discarded by the suspect in 600 block of 7th St NE. Additionally, the suspect had several outstanding bench warrants that stem from earlier package theft arrests. This subject, a 52 year old male of No Fixed Address, was arrested and the property was recovered.”

From a press release:

“Art and Soul continues its monthly series of intimate, family-style meals hosted by Executive Chef Wes Morton and his team with a dinner focusing on the brews and food of the Pacific Northwest. Held the second Saturday of the month, Saturday Suppers begin with a reception and passed hors d’oeuvres before moving to a seated, four-course meal.

The first of this year’s suppers, to be held on January 11, has been conceived by Art and Soul Chef de Cuisine Doug Alexander, an Oregon native and aficionado of the region’s micro breweries. The meal will highlight brews that are hard to find on this coast paired with dishes such as Columbia River Salmon and Red Wine Braised Leg of Venison.

From MPD:

“Today [Friday] First District Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person suspected of stealing packages in the area of 11th & Constitution Ave NE. Officers canvassed the area and later located a subject at 11th & PA Ave SE, who matched the description of the suspicious person. When the Officers contacted the person, they recovered a package and contents, which appeared to be a gift for a child. There was no address label found, so we cannot yet identify the owner of the package. The package/gift is apparently a gift from the child’s grandparents. If anyone in the community learns of a theft of a package that is similar to this, please email me directly at daniel.hickson(at)dc.gov.”
