PoP Preview – The Chesapeake Room

This new restaurant nearing opening is looking awesome. I had the good fortune to run into their chef, Robert Wood, who let me snap photos. The Chesapeake Room is located at 501 8th Street, SE on Barrack’s Row.

And here’s a big scoop – the fish tank is getting filled with fish on Tuesday:

Seriously, the place does look amazing. Chef Wood said that they are likely to open in the first week of May and they are finalizing the menu. He did say that 30% of the menu would stay the same while 70% changed with the seasons. He is also aiming to keep the majority of the ingredients within 250 miles of DC. I’m can’t wait to try this place out when they open.

More photos after the jump.

And it looks like they’ll have a nice outdoor area as well:

this looks great, very airy and as light filled as possible. super excited!

  • The Rickster

This is going to be great. There aren’t enough spots on Barracks Row with outdoor seating.

  • Whoa. I can’t believe that used to be Ophelia’s.

    It really does look impressive.

Please please let that be a fresh-water fish tank? (The salt-water tropical fish trade is pretty bad.)

      really? c’mon

    • Rick

Hopefully they are organic fish. I wouldn’t want my dinner to come from the inorganic kind.

  • AP

Looks great! Reminds me of the type of restaurant you would see in downtown Annapolis or Old Town Alexandria.

  • Looks great. Finally my girlfriend BRENNA will be happy.

    • It’s the small things in life :)

  • mappo

Looks like a Clyde’s clone. Which I’m fine with, if they clone Clyde’s eggs chesapeake as well. Mmmmm, eggs chesapeake….

  • DCster

Wow, Chef Wood is one lucky chef to have a restauarant as nice as that to cook in. I wonder how nicely they built the kitchen. I’ll have to check that out someday.

  • Bill (Owner)

Definitely Fresh Water Fish and for the reasons you stated. They are small now but will grow and acclimate better that way. Definitely \Home Grown\ but not on the Menu. Opening Soon!!!!

  • Doug Walton

Looks great Bill! Wish it was here in Greenville. All the best my friend! Doug
