Hot on the heels of ANXO Cidery & Tasting Room opening last weekend, hang on to your hats Kennedy Street boosters – you’re getting a wood brick oven pizzeria this Fall!!! Huge, huge, huge news for Brightwood Park (old school north country Petworth) peeps pining for pizza. All I’m told is that the name is ROTONDA and they’ll be opening this Fall. STAY TUNED.

“ANXO Cidery and Tasting Room, the second location of DC’s first winery since prohibition, opens its doors to the public for a grand opening on Saturday, May 27th, 2017. With the opening of this cidery, the team of Sam Fitz, Rachel Fitz, Cooper Sheehan and Alex & Sara Vallcorba is joined by Cider Maker Greg Johnson. “Dear PoPville,

There is a a growing problem on Georgia Avenue that authorities have not taken action. There is a group of men that are loitering outside what seems an abandoned home in the 5800 block Georgia Avenue NW on a 24 hour basis.

They stay in the front steps and porch drinking, doing drugs and having sex in public. Since it’s not a lit area, the group has grown from a couple to individuals to a sometimes crowd. Not only are they littering and damaging a neighborhood that is looking to improve, but they actively harass the public that walks by or parks on the street as patrons of the few business on the block. In some instances even having drunken individuals laying passed out on the sidewalk, hanging personal clothing garments on the parking meters and signs and even threatening local neighbors. (more…)

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force seek the public’s assistance in identifying three persons and a vehicle of interest in reference to an Armed Robbery of an armored car employee, which occurred in the 5400 block of 5th Street, Northwest on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

At approximately 11:47 am, an employee of an armored car service was walking to an establishment carrying an empty currency bag. Two suspects exited a vehicle and approached the employee brandishing assault rifles. The suspects ordered the employee to the ground and took the bag. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle. The bag was later recovered by MPD Officers in the 300 block of Kennedy Street, Northwest. (more…)

From MPD:

“On today’s date shortly before noon, two black males approached an armor car driver parked outside of a business near the intersection of 5th and Kennedy Street, NW and demanded a bag he was carrying. Both suspects were armed with AK47s and were able to obtain the bag. The suspects entered a dark in color vehicle driven by a third suspect and fled eastbound on Kennedy Street. The bag was recovered by arriving units near the event location.

“The 1,300 square foot Cidery and Tasting Room at 711 Kennedy Street NW will be the center of all ANXO cider production upon opening. The tasting room includes a bar that seats 30, and will function as a neighborhood bar three days a week. In addition, we look forward to hosting events that celebrate cider and DC’s growing community.”
