So apparently I missed a lot of action while I was taking my daughter for her check up (all is well.) OK Catching up on what I missed it appears there were two helicopters this morning. One in Bloomingdale/Eckington and one in NoMa/Union Station.

Readers reported a carjacking and park police helicopter responding to that one.
For the one near Union Station readers reported: “Amtrak power line inspections”

“Dear PoPville,
Tuesday night a parade of 8 cars, including DC police, ICE, and FBI, parked in the unit block alley between V and W NW and went through all our trash cans. What made it extra weird was the 5, 25 year old white males in suits who accompanied them.
I heard one of them say to another, “we know they were headed down north cap and went into the alley off W” and they responded “doesn’t help that it’s trash day.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Wanted to share with you the growing movement to sound the alarm and create community on North Capitol and T Street where Eckington and Bloomingdale neighbors gather every night at 8 PM to make some noise.”

From the office of Councilmember Zachary Parker, Ward 5:
“The past few days have been spent in conversation with the developer to address community concerns.
Councilmember Parker takes neighbors’ concerns seriously and is committed to holding Jair Lynch accountable for delivering on community benefits in this vital development. We are especially committed to advocating for neighbors to ensure the development includes a grocer and senior affordable housing, as well as robust retail options and other amenities. For what it is worth, we have found Jair Lynch to be a responsive and fair partner.
Based on the developer’s conversations with our office and the community over the last few days, they are formally submitting an updated PUD modification filing to the Zoning Commission. This revision removes all requested flexibility to convert retail to residential from the application in Parcels 2 and 4, including requested flexibility in the grocer space. While the developer maintains that the flexibility would have provided more long-term certainty given that retail markets are presently unpredictable, they have chosen to remove it based on conversations with our office and neighbors’ concerns and because they have a signed lease with a grocer and are committed to moving forward.
From Jair Lynch: “Should this grocer lease terminate, we are prepared to re-engage with the Zoning Commission and the community to adjust the plan accordingly. Please note, if ‘the back-up scenario’ is necessary, re-engaging with the relevant parties will likely take 12-18 months to reset the project.”
Here are some quick updates on the details: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Any update on plans for the Old Engine Company No. 12 site on North Capitol that caught fire in December, 2023? I live in the neighborhood and haven’t seen any recent activity there other than the occasional construction crew every few months. (more…)

LOTS of Bloomingdale residents have shared the following concerns/allegations:
“To Whom It May Concern,
We are writing as a united community of residents, homeowners, neighbors, and stakeholders in and around the Reservoir District development—where EYA is actively building and marketing homes—as well as in adjacent neighborhoods who have a long-standing stake in this project.
We are alarmed by the developer’s ongoing efforts to dismantle key promises made to the community—promises that were fundamental to the original mixed-use plan, used to gain community support, and central to EYA’s current marketing strategy to buyers.
The master developer, Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners, is seeking zoning changes that would dramatically reduce the amount of retail and public space, undermine the inclusion of a full-service grocery store, and strip away the very elements that made this development viable and desirable in the first place.
Here is what’s happening in Zoning Case No. 13-14E: (more…)
